Ok guys here the situation. fresh motor ground up build has about 2 hrs on it same problem from the first start up. simple problem is engine starts and idles revs awsome put it in gear and the idle dies down slow and bogs untill you build the rpms up. if your going slow or coming out of a corner and hammer it it dies down and quits. if you feathert the throttle in the corner as long as the rpms are up u can hammer it and it will rip right out topend is smooth aswell. JETTING DOES NOT AFFECT THIS PROBLEM. ive tried combos of 1 2 3 4 5th notch with jets from 150-200 piliots 45-52 a/f screw every where even set like the manual said. only thing jetting affects is starting up. once running u can run any size and it feals the same on bottom with the dieing or bogg whatever u wanna call it. heres what ive done BRAND new oem carb jetted to hell and back. new stator, new cdi,new coil, new rectifire, and today I even installed a new harness same thing still happens. ONLY thing in the motor i see funky was the left intake valve i cant fit a feller in at all. but all other valves are perfect spec and decomp as well. hotstart nut is striped but seems real tight as is. if anyone knows please help a dude out! lol

Then why cant you fit the feeler gauge in? You sure you were at TDC when you adjusted it-rocker arms had slight play in them?

Could be a weak valve spring, cupped valve, etc. I say its valve related...

it dosent have a rocker there. and new springs with set psi,new valves, new guides, new seats, new cam. maybe ill just reshim it and see if it starts better. dam thing runs awsome at idle and WOT dosent puff any smoke EVER

Sorry man, just realized this aint the EX forum lol.

I think you need to reshim it, its too tight and causing issues. Thats the only plausible answer i think.

yea its gotta be something simple (thats what always cost's the most) everything inside and out is brand new and mostly aftermarket

may be it looks like its dead on, I do think ive found the problem tho,at TDC i looked in the flywheel sight hole and you cant see the marks, this would indicate a sheard flywheel key

In my experience, a trully sheared flywheel key will not ever run as the flywheel doesn't spin with the crank. You might get a spark every now and then, but you wont get enough spark to run, at all.

If you cant get a feeler gauge on that valve thenthats your problem. Stop listening to anyone else and adjust your vavles properly and I bet she runs like it should.

Note, just noticed you said that. You need to adjust your valves for sure.

well here it goes. the one valve that was off had the shim wedged side ways put it in right and a .04 went right in , now im pretty sure the key sheard off becuase when i put it a tdc the cam marks are perfect but the flywheel marks are 1/2in off

.04 is still a little on the tight side. The flywheel is easy to check, but you will need a flywheel puller. Not some 3 jaw puller or anything like that.
