I just had my motor worked on, turned it into a race motor. Before it was ripping like it is now i changed the rear sprocket from 38 teeth to 39 teeth.
Now that the motor is souped up i get into 5th gear in no time and am hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear around the track easily.

If i change the rear sprocket back to 38 teeth and up the front sprocket to 14 teeth, will that cure my issue of revving in 5th gear so much around the track??

Yes that should help a lot! I ran a 13 up front for a while, but like you hit it 5th way too soon. If you have decent motor work you can at least run a 14 tooth up front. You may even be able to run the 14 front and drop a tooth or two on the rear depending on how many ponies your new motor is turning!
