i traded my honda 450 for a yfz and the crank locked up on me right away so i had it rebuilt and now its killing batterys. When i go on a long ride like an hour before shutting it off it will kill the battery and it wont hold a charge after that. but if i dont ride that far its fine, could be engine getting to hot or a wiring failure? some help?

2 things, YFZ's are known to kill batterys you may have a bad one, and crank shafts go bad on them really fast i have a bunch of friends and between the all of us we have replaced about 5 in about a year, im getting another now. tehe

If you know anyone that has replaced 5 cranks in a year they are doing something way wrong. Thats not typical for a YFZ, its typical for people who do absolutely no maintenance and beat the living crap out of their machine. National racres dont go through cranks like that.

Some YFZ's have had trouble with voltage regulation which will kill a battery but there is a simple fix for that. Go to your local Yamaha dealer and tell them what your problem is and they will steer you in the right direction.

Is it an 04? Do you have your head lights off if so put them back on to comPlete the circuit or it's the stator

yup what he said ^^^^

the 04 05's will slowly drain the battery if you don't ever turn the lights on.

The charging feature when you run with the headlights on is needed to keep a full charge...othrrwise you need to upgrade your stator
