Anybody know a few of the differences between the 01-04 CR 250r's? Or anything specific to look for on them? Any notorious issues they may have had?

Looking at picking one up here shortly. Or if anyone knows of any good deals on one, let me know.

02-07 were powervalve motors, new frame design, new bodywork and better suspension valving. i wouldn't pass up a 01 by any means but 02+ has more aftermarket parts for them.

01 was non powervalve so the power band kicks in pretty suddenly.
02+ powervalve smooths the power band out so it's not as harsh but still fun.

i'll look later for some deals around canadia land.

I heard the first years of the aluminum frame handled like crap. Don't really know from personal experience though. Just have heard that a lot.

in 02 they changed to the electronic powervalve which is controlled by a servo. but all cr250s have a powervalve atleast all liquid cooled cr250s do

2000-2001
and
2002-2004 if im correct?

2000-2001 is said to have the best engine while the 2002+ has the better handling and slimer chassis..I love the feel of my 2002 Cr250..had a 2001 cr125 before and it was definately wider. 2002 is great, power is sweet too.

Thanks for all the info and the researching of the bikes. The one on kijiji in Hamilton I have actually already contacted. Lowest he will take is $2200. Still a bit steep.

I found an 01 for $1200, but it sounds a bit suspicious and looks to need quite a bit of work. I am not afraid of fixing up a machine, but I kind of would rather lean towards picking up a well maintained bike for $2k, as opposed to sinking $2k into one that I bought for a grand.

Bikes definitely are a lot more up this way. I am 30 minutes from Niagara Falls border and would go into the states to get one. I brought back my old 250r, as well as my laeger hybrid, so I know the procedure at the border pretty good lol

I race and ride a 2001 cr250. They are great bikes. whats nice about the 01 motors is many parts from 90-01 interchange. My clutch basket was grooved, so I put a basket out of a 94 in it, powervalves were the same through these years too. Engine is awesome. I'm running a pwk carb on mine as appossed to the mikuni. Huge wake up call for the motor. The 02 up had electronic powervalves. They are definitely easier to find aftermarket stuff for, but I wouldn't trade my 01 for one. I love it.

Yeah I am kind of leaning towards an 01. Found a good deal on one... If I pick it up this week, I will post a picture of it :D

i had 05 wheels on my 01 so 01 to 07 wheels are the same.

btw they were aftermarket hubs, spokes, nipples, spacers, ect., from RAD mfg.

this is mine. Picked it up for 800 bucks. suspension was done by euro, setup for my weight. rebuilt the topend. put tires on it. had triple clamp, pipe, suspension when I bought it. now has airstryker, rad valve, runs awesome, handles great

WOW thats nice for 800! I figured I'd try out the newer frames..I really like the 00-01's though. I got mine for 1800 but usually theyre like 2200-2500..sadly. People think theyre gold.

I just picked up a roached out 97. I'll probably go through it from top to bottom, but for what I gave, cheap thrills. Also, I'll start that CR85 rebuild thread, seeing how I have the bike 98% done now.

How I bought it, dirt and all.

How it sits now. I've got big plans for it, but for now, a good cleaning is all it got. lol

Nice 97

I actually ended up picking up an 03 recently. Freshly rebuilt bondi race engine, LGS suspension, excel rims, fmf pipe and silencer (spare pro circuit in mint condition), 3 new spare rear tires, one front, spare chain and sprockets. Wasnt a bad deal for $2k locally. With an ownership as well

Next winter its getting a new seat cover, and dressed up in a new set of white plastics. Not 100% sure on the graphics ill be using when I do it in white though. I have always liked the look of nice clean bikes.

Already ridden it a few times and love it, but I do miss the quads. So a nice laeger 250r build might be in the future and keep the bike

My rebuild finally got off the ground. Got the bike stripped to bare frame, rebuilt the motor last night, and have almost everything ordered for it. I have a rebuild thread going at T-Talk under the Honda 2-strokes forum.

post the rebuild thread here to! btw, they still had steel frames in 97. 98 was the first year for aluminum.

97 CR250 was the first year for the aluminum frame
98 CR125 was the first year that they came with an aluminum frame.

Heres the way mine sits but I just put on a new exhaust, then cycra's are coming too. Hopefully an oversize tank in time too.

old 2001 CR125

This might be the cleanest 13 year old bike you'll ever see. There's roughly 15 hours on it, still rolling on original tires, and all original parts. The only thing I ever changed was the chain, I put an o-ring chain on it when it was brand new. If I remember correctly, the last time it ran was in 2005. It's been siiting in my basement since then. The reason for this, I hate the bike when compared to my steel framed 93 and 96.
