View Full Version : Which exhaust system?

12-09-2001, 11:07 AM
My name is Jay and I am a new EX owner and new to EXRIDERS.COM. This is a great site. I am looking to purchase a full exhaust system. Which one offers the most power gains? I heard it was the Yoshimura system. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What size of wheeler? 250,300, or 400EX??? Each bike is diff.

Check out White Bros is pretty good, and Curtis Sparks is great. Yoshimira is a little overpriced.

From what ive heard curtis sparks makes the best, thats what im going with after i get my motor rebuilt. Also try doing a search for exhaust, that should help you a little.

Sparks, Duncan, and TC racing are all good exhaust systems. They are all loud too.

Go with the White Bros E-Series pro-meg system.

Sorry, I don`t consider people wanting to buy either one of those. I would get the Sparks or TC exhaust.

DMC, TC, and Curtis Sparks. Thank you all for helping me narrow down my choices. Oh, I have a 400EX, I should have said that to begin with. Sorry, this stuff is new to me. Just a couple more questions: What is TC? Who carries them? And who carries Curtis Sparks? Thank you.

TC stands for Tom Carlson. He builds racing engines for the Pro`s like Doug Gust. He is very good with four stroke motors. You will have to get the pipe straight through TC. His phone number is 1 (814) 723-3514. Curtis Sparks is also a racing engine builder for many of the Pro`s like Jones and Hitt. His stuff is a little bit more expensive. Check out Sparksracing.com. You need to get a K&N air filter and Outerwear when you buy the pipe. Plus you will have to re-jet the bike.

I agree with the curtis sparks, my friend has one and his bike rips. I am pleased with my Duncan as well, great power gain througout the range.

Does Tom Carlson make his own headpipe and then put a supertrapp at the end? That's what i saw on Doug Gust's TC racing bike. Or does he make his own silencer and everything?

I`m not sure about the headerpipe. He starts out with a Supertrapp silencer and makes it how he wants it.

Anyone have a Bill's pipe "Thunder Series" Is it loud Does it add anymore power than the e-series.

yea, although it seems alot of power to you,(not tryin to bash) on a friends bike he had a FMF megamax 2 on his bike also. he then switched to a supertrapp & noticed a better power gain with the supertrapp. LIke i said though. I only reccomend Sparks.

Lets not forget abour PRO CIRCUIT. using the mods listed below for my florida altitude has made huge gains across the board.

and as far as having to buy a K&N air filter for certain pipes...
I would be skeptical about that. Read other threads and get peoples opinions about their filters. Many say (and i beleive) that the filtration of a K&N is inferior to foam filters in some conditions. If you have to run an outerwear, why not just run a foam filter and be done with it? The flow difference from different filters (uni, twin air, K&N) is minimal if they are all clean & oiled the same.
Bigger gains are accomplished by taking the lid off your airbox or cutting the middle of the lid out and stretching a piece of panty hose over it, combined with proper jetting & exhaust.
A K&N filter in my opinion is not going to do a whole lot for perfromance.

White Brothers pro-mag and Sparks x-6 are the pipes with the most power gains. The White Brothers is also one of quietest.
Both of them are full systems for the 400EX.

I just got my TC Pipe today. I just got done riding not to long ago. It added all kinds of torque. I love it. It sounds sweet too.
