Hey just wondering has anybody had the chance to use the stainless hetrick 85 lbs spring (1500) I ordered a few. We have a 2012 drx built by rich, national level specs porting, cvt mods, ect. He built it with a 1500 max rpm rear spring, 2000 shoe springs and 3.5 rollers. Alex has been getting comfortable on it for the last 3 months now and one of our season openers are next week so i plan on freshening up the rear shoe and torque springs before we go. I am going to replace it with the stainless hetrick spring (the spring bake off results were very impressive) Any thoughts?

my .02 is stay with the max rpm springs.I have had great results with them.I run a 1000 in our 70cc bike and get 6-10 motos with out replacement.I have never had one go out.I just replace them for peace of mind.

Hetrick stainless spring works great and is very consistent.

if the spring is stronger or lighter it may not get full travel on variator

the 85 lb spring is slightly less than a true 1500rpm spring but more than the 1000. It is also more than the Max rpm purple spring. Basically it is a very very good spring. I have used dozens of them(not cause they go bad). In real world testing I can tell you they loose very little tension. You will need to adjust weights modestly. If you use an overrange pulley ask rich about the green springs, they tend to fit better.

Great feedback, Thanks guys. So basically if I use the 85lbs spring ( slightly lighter than the MAX sprng, i think it was about 95 lbs) lighten up 3.5 rollers to perhaps 3.25's and check for full belt trvel on variator( about a 1/8 inch from top). I'm not sure if i'm going to change it before our first moto, i shouldprobably run it like he set it up so i can have some sort of baseline to start with.

yes that's correct or alternate the 3.25 and 3.50 to every other one

question for fish-d-fish, when you say "true 1500 rpm spring" I've run into the problem of buying and trying a ton "and yes I think literally 2000 pounds" of springs and finding out tht they aren't true rpm anything some were even repainted. Is there a way to test a spring before putting it on the variator so that I know I'm getting the pressure I want? Kind a new to this so be gentle...

Thanks Farm Boy

Buy a digital scale, set a brick on either side of it, set the spring on the scale, press down on the spring with a 2x4 till the 2x4 hits the bricks which reaches the same point no matter what spring you use. Test new springs to old in this fashion. I will leave it up to you to figure out what the ideal test height is :)..but anything in this style of test is pretty good.

So how can I tell what the installed pressure is and full compressed pressure is?
