I finally pulled the trigger on a brand new Afco today. I picked it up from summit racing $342 shipped and I was wondering if anybody had pics of one installed on their bike? Since the hoses are both located on the left side what do I need to do to fit the bottom hose?? I would like to have everything I need so I can have an easy install the day it gets to me!!

Here you go... I love this radiator because botht he inlet and outlets are ont he same side and the fittings are awesome(aircraft grade)

I dont even use a overflow with it. it blows some out to about 1/4 way from full and stays there forever. I use it with my true 330 and love it

Here's a pic of mine in my Lobo, works well, I put a high pressure cap on it and it doesn't blow any coolant out.

It could just be the pics but Slverlakes fitting look like they are more of a 90 degree angle then Beerocks?? either way did you guys buy them from afco or wherever you purchased the radiator? I bought mine from summit racing but they are telling me they dont come with them and donnot know what size they take?????? I was going to call Afco tomrrow and see if I can get some better info and just buy the fittings from them. I am stoked to get this bad boy installed on my bike and would like to have everything I need ahead of time

Yeah i did some research on these rads here on the forum and it looked like they came with fittings...I mean that would only make sense rite? Well a few guys said they picked theirs up for 300-320 but I couldnt find one anywhere that cheap. I couldnt find any info about them on Afcos webpage and Jensen Racing told me they cost $380 plus shipping so I thought Summit racing had the best deal I paid $342 shipped but then called today just to double check and they told me they didnt come with fittings!! The guy even put me on hold and said he was calling Afco and then told me they didnt know what size I needed??? Im lost wouldnt all Honda trx 250R radiators have the SAME fittings !! .................Im going to call Afco tomorrow and see if maybe that guy from Summit was just a dumb@$$ because I cant believe they dont come with the radiator seeing how you cant use it without them and they dont say anything about needing them

Hey,let me know what you find out.I just ordered one yesterday from summit as well.

I ordered mine from Summit and it did NOT come with fittings. I got those separate from a local automotive shop, and yes, mine are 90 degree fittings, which work perfect on my Lobo, but it has that extra frame rail. Looks like 45 degree fittings work perfect on other frames.

if the online sale offer doesnt say does not come with fittings and they are shown they need to cough them up

Yes, it's worth a try because I had 75 bucks into my black anodized ones.

not sure if you can see it in this picture but i have a real thick radiator gaurd from OMF in front of the radiator to protect it...

its a wise investment

i thought i remember reading in the janssen auction one time, that janssen just included the fittings. Seems like afco didn't include them, it was just a janssen thing. Prolly why theres is higher. Those fittings are high!

I bought my AFCO from Jannsen and received fittings. I also paid close to 400 bucks.

Beerock, I also have the OMF guard, fits nicely and protects nicely.

Unfortunately, after a few rides on my new radiator, my plastic support broke and started stabbing at my nice, new, expensive radiator....par for the course...

Ok guys I called Afco today and the guy told me that they do not make fittings for them anymore. So they DONT come with them and they didnt even have any to sell me, that I would have to pick them up somwhere els. When I called Summit the other day they said as long as I give them the diameter that I need they have some for $7 each. He said they were the stinger stlye whatever that means? Also he didnt clarify if they were aluminum or what but i would assume they are. Im not sure what Im going to do but I need to figure it out fast! My radiator will be here in about a week and i would like to get a couple rides in with it before my dune trip towards the end of June

So are all these using straight hoses with no bends?

I find it really odd that Afco could be selling these and not giving any information as to the style of ends that are needed. You could probably drag the radiator into a few local shops and dig around, but I'd like the radiator I receive to be drop-in.

Looks like the blue/red sockets used might be aeroquip. From visual inspection, I think they might be these:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/4959/Aeroquip_Socketless_Fittings

Combined with something like this:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/AeroquipFittingsAluminumANFlareUnion/AeroquipFlareAdapters

From the sizes of hoses listed under here:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/33/Aeroquip_Socketless_Hose

I'd say were looking at -12AN.

So looks like about 70 bucks on top of radiator to get going. The 380 plus ship sounds about right from jenssen if they are including this stuff compared to the 340 shipped from summit without it.

DISCLAIMER! I have no idea what I am talking about, and could be completely off seeing as this is by visual inspection only combined with educated guesses.

On another note... Does that socketless hose say both 250PSI and NEVER NEED A CLAMP?! Are they really saying that something that can be pushed on and pulled off by hand can hold 250psi and NOT need a hose clamp? That sounds scary as hell...

Fear250r
05-24-2012, 09:08 PM
Yes, I used straight heater hose from the auto parts store.

Also, I have mine clamped.

Meat, mine had tabs for a guard to be bolted up or to be used with the stock guard.

that first link looks like the fittings, i beleived i was told they were aueroquip but im not sure...

call afco again and ask them what the size is to screw on the radiator and whatever the inner diameter spec is too... those aeroquip fittings sure do look exactly what are on mine

yeah the grill & louvers that protect the front of the radiator. My rad didn't come with any mounting tabs for the grill so I just zip tied it and its not pretty but its been holding the grill on successfully for 2 years. Just wonderin' if guys had grill mounting tabs on your radiators.

Believe it or not I think I did the same thing lol but I used red zip ties haha I'll have to check I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow

Ok guys I got my new Afco couple days ago and like we expected no fittings came with it. But I just took it to a local shop called Tompkins they sell all sorts of hydraulic hoses, fitting, connectors ect. ect. I picked up both fittings for $5 and they work perfect! They are brass so they arent as pretty as the anodized aluminum ones but they also didnt cost me $75.........Also once the hoses are plugged in you dont really see much of the fitting anyways. Mine did come with tabs on it to mount a screen too if you wanted to....... So if somebody is wanting a Afco radiator you can get a brand new one from summit racing $342 shipped and then find your own fittings and still be under $350 for a top of the line radiator.

I'm probably not going to purchase one until after the end of summer, but I think I've found the correct fitting size and it would be nice to put out a verification for everyone searching on this topic if you know what size adapter you bought.

The Afco site says 1/2 14NPT if you click on the 80260N:
http://www.afcoracing.com/dr_cooling_os.html

This matches up with what I would figure the size of a fitting would be according to this chart:
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/npt-national-pipe-taper-threads-d_750.html

So I think the first stage is to bring NPT to AN through one of these:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-220246/

And then bring it to socketless barb with this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AER-FBM1525/

But yea, that's a lot of money for trick looks. I was looking around, and you'd think there would be 1/2 14npt to -12an socketless barb in aluminum that would cut out the middle man, but I cant seem to find it. I don't like the idea of brass color being visible on my bike, so I guess back to the search.
