i recently did a rebuild on my sons `05 ex along with a big gun eco slip-on. i used a prox piston kit, honed stock cyl, lapped the valves, replaced valve seals, checked valve guides, ground the welds in the stock header and rejetted to a 158 main.i broke it in hard as i always do. it runs great dosent seem to be using oil but it is smoking just a bit when you free rev it even when its warm. could my jetting being rich cause this? compression test shows just a bit over 130. any ideas. oh im running rotella 15-40 non synthetic.

Plugs black and the exhaust is black and smells like gas your too rich. Remove the airbox lid and see if it goes away-it does you know your rich.

However if you cleaned up the cylinder but it was out of spec then you just did all that work for nothing. Was the piston rather tight going in or did it plop in easy?

cylinder was tight. old piston wasent even scuffed would have just installed new rings but already had the pro-x kit. plug is black ill try the airbox lid tomorrow.

yea, jetting sounds rich if the plugs black.

Removing lid should suffice possibly, if not put lid back on and put a 155 in there and see where your at.

I have that problem to but i've got wiseco 10:1 426 with new rings and 145psi compression. I've got stock exhaust and intake and 148 main jet. It has only been a hour of break in on the new rings so that may be why but it has a fair amount of blue smoke when i rev it?
