So my son was riding my 426 earlier this evening and blew the oil line that goes from the cooler to the cylinder. What would cause this? Can I just put a better clamp on there and put some more oil in it or should I look into it a little further?

Thanks,
Travis

re-hook with a better clamp, add some oil and keep an eye on it.

Yea i would put one of those hose clamps with the screw you can tighten on there.

Much better than the oem squeeze clamp that comes on it.

Its actually not that uncommon.

correct being that it is an OIL breather LINE it can overpressure and blow off releasing oil on to the headers leaving you to sit in a cloud of burnt oil smoke wondering WTF?.not very much fun when you're way out somewhere and it happens.weird ive run stock,416 and 426 with the latter 2 being hi comp and it never happened to me but i've seen it on a friends.the first few minutes, till you figure out whats going on,are very disheartening.no biggie tho.

I think that oil line/breather line runs from the valve cover to the top of the oil tank.......just to help clearify things :ermm:

Lol I don't really know where it goes I just saw it hanging there and it was spewing oil all over the header and stuff so I called it an oil line. Will put a better clamp on it and see what happens, thanks guys.

Wouldn't hurt to check and make sure the oil is not overfilled. What procedure do you use to check the level?

useless as ever i see......

to keep it on topic, yea i would also check the oil level properly.let the machine warm up for 5-10 r so minutes, turn off let sit for 5 minutes.pull dipstick, clean ,re-insert and then check it.keep it in the middle ground because if it gets extremely hot the oil will expand and you should leave adequate room for that expansion. good luck

Don't want to stir the pot or anything but I usually take it for a spin around the yard a few times in 2nd or 3rd to get it warmed up and then I pull it in the garage and check the oil. Should I be letting it idle for like 10 minutes instead of riding it?

Riding its fine to warm it up, let it idle for a min or so then check is always how I do it.

I also check it by not screwing the dipstick in. This way you dont have unscrew/screw it on a few times and you get a smidgen more oil in there
