Well, its my first post here on exriders (typo in my name, should be Tacitcal Redneck... grrr), hey by the way. Ok, i have a 400ex (416) i just got a while back, looking to put some junk on it...
I already have orange maier 06+ style plastic, 250r hood scoop, burgard stem, extended a-arms, extended racing axle, TC racing supertrapp pipe, big ole bumper, and a lot of unknown parts, and i just ordered air shrouds, grips, and DWT rear beadlocks. (not in yet).
Several things i will eventually do, get new shockcovers, or new shocks, paint the hubs, powdercoat my front rims black, or get some black douglas non-beadlock fronts, maxxis rzrs, hydraulic clutch, etc...
I'm looking for some cool little devices.. I ride a little MX, some woods riding, and i have to cross the occasional mud puddle, and there are a lot of rocks around here (like... biggggg rocks, like... the creekbeds are rock.)
So you fellas probably have a bunch of niftey stuff, i'd like some of that, i'd like to lower my quad more than it is, i don't know.. Any ideas of what i should buy?

Hotcam if it doesnt already have one, stage 2 would be best.

Id work on having the shocks redone. get a pair of yfz450 shocks for the front if you want out of the box nice soft setup for MX. If you dont mind spending a bit some honda 450r shocks redone would be the best. Derisi, GT Thunder, C&D racing and jet are some of the best shock builders. Better your suspension soaks up the bumps the faster you can go.

You also need some kinda skid plate if you gonna be in rocks. I really liked my proarmor 1/4 thick swingarm skid, it took a beating in PA in rocks and survived with very little damage. Id also run a belly skid as well. I like pro armor, prm, tusk and armadillo myself, they all make good stuff with pro armor and prm being the best.

well, not wanting to do any internal work, its actually still in the shop... dropped a valve the 1st day of riding.... :eek2:
I'm always looking for shocks on craigslist, there are some axis shocks for 700 i think... not sure. Not wanting to put that in it, was thinking just a few more 100. To start off i paid 600, plus my old quad, worth a good $1900, plus all the mods, $300 wheels, $60 shrouds.. not to mention the $10 grips :D

x2 on the shocks and skid plate. I would also get some heal guards, not so fun getting your foot caught between your peg, your wheel, and the ground :ermm:

Just want to mention, Those are some awesome tires you have in the picture.

Alot of people knock them since they are 4ply, but they hooked up better than almost (Razr's) any tire i have ever used.

Good looking 400 too man.

Welcome to the site!

oh yeah, i've been looking for some heel gaurd addons with nets, can't find them anywhere. I don't really want to spend $300 on new nerf bars right now. I definetly need a skid plate to, and thanks.
I like the tires ok... They were would you beleive $50 apeice, bought some origanly for my beater blaster, had some CST ambush i just LOVED... But these are doing fine, im going to run them into the ground and get some rzrs or ambushs.

sorry cjm but i gotta send him on a different path with skids.....

take a serious look at ricochet full frame skid, cheaper than pro armor and nearly identical with flares to protect pedals and shifter.i believe t-40 torx bolts are supplied.large well placed oil drain holes.front lip wraps slightly up around front of frame(just enough to not catch).same mounting as pro armor as well.i've run it for 3 seasons in northeast pa rock garden woods ,trails and d6 harescrambles, without a hitch.

ricochet bulletline (not standard) swinger skid as well.mine came with hex key bolts but they may have switched to torx as well. the part i really like is built in chain guide to keep chain from slipping off if it gets loose.works extremely well,is built extremely well and guaranteed for life.

i cant say enough good about their skids for the 400ex's.i really can't stress enough how much i've abused the crap out of them and had 0 issues whatsoever.

skip the shock covers in my book unless you're a maintenance freak and take them off after every ride and clean under them.they trap alot of crap in there.without a proper maintenance schedule its a good way to ruin nice shocks.

My buddy has a ricochet swinger skid. Its a well built skid but imho the welds are much sloppier than the pro armor or prm. However that is just a personal thing, doesnt effect the skid.

yea and if it does it still has a lifetime warranty.maybe he got a dookie one, idk.did he have standard or bulletline?

Hey heres a suggestion, if you dont have to have nets get these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tusk-Heel-Guards-99-09-Honda-TRX-400EX-400X-/150659182424?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2313fcaf58&vxp=mtr
handguards I love, saved mine a lot. Maier xc pro is very similar to acerbis, but like half the price. thats what im running. id get wrap arounds but thats personal preferance.

yeah.. i like pictures..
i almost.. i mean ALMOST bought some powermadd orange handgaurds but the mounting stuff was an extra $30.. didn't like that bit of fine print.. so i guess i don't really need them, never had them before, and i like my hands tan.
I've saw those heel gaurds, their ok, but really druther have some nets, looking to eventually buy some really big bulkey nerfs. (like those).
Got my eyes open on craigslist for any shocks or racing parts.

Anyone know anything about holeshot devices? lowering devices? little stuff like that?

VV below is my piston

funny, that's exactly the reason i didnt buy them.don't like to feel like i'm being tricked.on the other hand they are nice, they came on a machine i bought but the yellow ones didnt match my orange maiers so i sold them.honestly i didnt like my hands being wrapped in weak aluminum either, with the way i hit stuff figured it was only a matter of time before i'd be pulling aluminum chunks out of my hands.

running these nerfs on the 400,price isn't bad and i've had them for almost 10 years on 2 dif machines, held up well.replaced the nets once.

never had, wanted or felt the need for heel guards so i can't help you there.
