Cooling question

I'm trying to diagnose a cooling issue on the 05. I read someone said to check the water pump seal by removing the small hose that runs from wp to t-stat should have no coolant in it. But when i took mine off (took of wp side) it started pooring coolant everywhere and I quickly attached the hose again.

Is this really the right way to check it? Seems like the line should have coolant in it?

That statement is incorrect. The one that shouldn't have coolant is the one from water pump that dumps down and is just hanging there. That let's anything leaking past the mechanical seal drain out.
