I have a 2002 400ex I'm trying to bring back to life. Acted like it was not getting any fuel at the top end of 2nd and 3rd and would pop and die out so I figured it needed jetted to get more fuel since it is bored to a 426 with a stage 2 hotcam. Has a UNI filter but the airbox lid is on, also have an FMF exaust.

I took it to Honda to have them jet it for me, $150 and 2 weeks ater I get the bike back and ride it for about an hour before it starts doing the same crap it was before I took it in. I took the carb out and cleaned it, removed the petcock on the fuel tank and cleaned the gunk out of it. I assume that is why it died out again after I got it back it's been running great ever since with the exception of fuel leaking out of the overflow. However after 5 minutes or so of riding, it's getting really hot and you can feel it on your leg. I'm thinking it's running lean but Honda just jetted it? Receipt says KN102.221 #147.5 PO so I'm assuming it's a 147.5 Main? (http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Mikuni-KN102-221-147-5-POWER-JET) Not sure.

Its not jetted right. Not sure what jet they used, but it isnt right. Your dealer is an idiot.

In the very least Id try a 170 main and a 42 pilot. That should be close depending on elevation and temperature.

Buy a good selection of jets from 165-175, this way you can play around with it. You can get the proper jets at www.jetsrus.com

^ I agree, the only thing I would suggest differently is I would buy from 165-190 in incriments of 5.
