I have some ohlins on my 250r that i have actually been impressed with in the past, but they are getting to need a rebuild and i know nothing about them?

Were they special for 250r's? i don't see them anywhere else?

are they even worth rebuilding?

when were they made?

They look like these....

BTW this is NOT my R

I believe they called them large bodies. I think it was 1989 -1991 they started to show up. I know PPS Suspension was selling some at the mickey's around that time. They were bigger so they weighed more and I believe that is why they went away, not due to lack of performance. Weight was the end of the idea.

are they worth keeping? Should i sell them for something more new?

This is a combo bike for me and will see MANY MANY MANY XC races and maybe even a few MX along with daily duty's.

I bought a set brand new in 1996 and ran them for many many xc races. very good shocks IMO.
They would be worth keeping if they are set up for your weight and racing level.

That is up to you. They may work fantastic. You might call a shock rebuilder that does some ohlins and see about parts availability. The weight is the only drawback and it may be so slight that it won't matter to you. The main body and large spring add the weight. I have not seen these in a long time but at one point they were very top of the line.

I'd like to see another angle of them to see if they are the same as mine. If so, great performing shocks that are heavy and most shops aren't crazy about re-doing but there are some out there who are willing and in the know on parts.

have a set on my 250r. I sent them to PPS and they did a great job. They work really good. Only downside was that if they are like mine and haven't been serviced in a long time they could be very pricey since alot of parts could be wore out.

There's plenty of people who rebuild shocks, and sometimes I think we end up paying more for a name.

I'll drop a referral - and let the masses argue it if they feel the need.

He goes by ESCHONDA on eBay.

I've used him and he was very knowledgable, very well priced compared to others and has excellent communication skills. It's free to shop so give him a call.

And to answer your question whether to keep or get rid of, I say depends on what you're quoted for repair. It only makes sense to upgrde if you're talking a couple hundo.

Not sure, my front springs look as heavy as rears, compression and rebound adjustable.

I have those shocks bodies, with what i think is worcs or pep dual rate springs.
Mine are NON adjustable but they ride comparable to shocks ive ridden in the past.

Ill call around for a rebuild and see what i can find.

Thanks Guys,
