What's everyone's opinion on lowering my 400. The back is already lowered and I thought about doing the front. I found some lowering parts on amazon for 30 dollars. They would be 3.5 inches. If you guys don't think amazon is the best place to order who do you recommend?

Depends what kind of riding you do. I guess if you do TT go for it.

well, just to give you an idea.....I used blaster front shocks and it lowered it down like this, you have to grind the top of the shocks down thinner though. and I made a linkage piece to lower the rear down. I dont have this bike anymore but I was gonna use it to do barrel and pole racing at a atv rodeo.

Blaster shocks on the front will lower it quite a bit, not sure on the exact number though.

EDIT: Posted this right as 400man posted his R with the same idea.

I'm not much of a jumper anyway. We have a lot of flat land and trails mainly I ride with it.

Why do you want to lower it? It's going to ride like a freight train after unless you set the shocks up for the geo.

Buy YFZ450 shocks for the front to lower it.. How'd you lower the rear?

Has anyone used those that are like blocks to lower down the front?

It was lowered when I bought it but it has the lowering link on the back shock that makes it poke down below the bike.

Yea i just bought and installed them on my z.

I went from having a smooth plush ride to taking a beating over a few minor bumps.

It makes it ride ROUGH! I did a review in the z400 forums on this kit.

Yeah i heard about putting blaster shocks on the front too and it lowers it to where the a arms are about straight across. Their on ebay for around 30 bucks shipped too.

I was also looking at that front lowering kit on ebay and was wandering about it but you might as well get blaster shocks and shave the mounts a little bit because its the same price as that lowering piece, but with the shocks you get a little better suspension plus it lowers it some.

I really don't think Blaster shocks would give you a performence boost over stock 400ex shocks. If anything it's the other way around..

.. the there is more to shocks then eye to eye length.. What happens if the shock doesnt bottom before the frame?

Get YFZ front shocks if you're set on buying shorter shocks or you'll be dissapointed with the results. They lower it by 1-1.5", are a better shock then the 400ex/blaster combined, and have a rezzy.

Well i was referring the blaster shocks since he said he rides on mostly flat ground. But they wouldnt offer any performance gains, just lowering and making it a little wider. In my thread, im referring to drag racing though. But yeah i would get either yfz/450r shocks but they are a little out of price range right now. Any difference between the 450r/yfz shocks? I know between the yfz450 years, they did some changes to their shocks. I found some on this site for only 120 bucks on page 3:

450r shocks are better if you plan on getting them revalved.. but sit higher than stock

YFZ450 shocks sit lower than stock and are not as upgradeable as the 450r shocks.. But if you want to just buy decent shocks that are better than the stock pogo sticks, and want a lower ride height, I'd get the yfz shocks.. Which is the impression I got from the OP
