wat do most people run on the 4strokes, the 11's or the 9.5's

QuadTrix6

more people run 11's, the 11's are supposed to slide better and the 9.5's are suposed to get better grip, i have 9.5;s now and will soon be switching to the 11's

03-03-2003, 11:47 PM
nah i think more people run 9.5s

9.5 have problems of breaking their bead on non-beadlock rims. here is a pic of 11's

You got it backwards Quadtrix, 9.5's slide better and 11's hook up better. I run 9.5's on the 250 and 11's on the 416.

9.5's

18x9.5 ripped around good on a track grooved even though the 18x11 seemed that they would be mroe traction but i think 18x9.5 is the best.. they ripped

I started a thread on this a few weeks back and in reply most of the guys told me that the 9.5's pop of the bead easily if you hammer it exiting corners or some ish like that. Hell rico even told me that he has seen them pop off beadlocked rims!

9.5's

from what i have heard it is 9.5's hook up better cuz they dig in more then a wider tire and the 11's slide better bc they float more on the dirt. If you do the extremes u can see. take a very very skinny tire throw it on the rear and it wont slide great. take a very wide tire and it will float over the dirt and slide. just my .02

UH,, ok. But your still wrong. Ever wonder why the drag cars run wide tires? Ever wonder why rally cars run wide tires?

And also another thing to think about,,, if the 9.5's hooked up better then why doesnt itp or razr make that size in there mx tires?

Asphalt is very different from dirt. On dirt there is a lot less traction and usually a layer of loose terrain before you reach a hard surface. Yes on asphalt a wide tire will get more grip because it has more area touching. On dirt the initial traction is less so u need a skinnier tire to dig and then find traction and go not just "float" on top and spin like a wider tire will do. Also about rally cars. isnt the point of them to slide out the rear and have the front tires pull them through the turns? arent they supposed to slide and that is why they use wider tires?

Didnt ITP come out with the Holeshot MXR's which are 10 inches wide instead of 11?

If im still wrong on this let me know because i dont want to give out false info. Thanks

i personally run 9.5'5 and love them no problems

03-04-2003, 11:28 PM
the reason why they made them so small is for smaller quads but not only that becuase there so lightweight.. and dont tell me 2 lbs or 3 lbs dont make a difference cuz its a hgue difference..

I think most people run 9.5's on two strokes because they allow the engine to rev more. There is less rotating mass. They also don't hook up quite as well, but for what you're giving up in traction, you're gaining in revs. It takes quite a bit less power to turn the 9.5's, especially in sand and mud. Good rule of thumb is to use 9.5's on a two stroke and 11's on thumpers.

As far as coming off the rim, I had more problems with that in the old days when I had 11's on std. wheels. Once I went to 9.5's, even on std. wheels, I had less problems with tires coming off the rim. The 9.5's have less flex than 11's.

Yea true... the 9.5's on my R ripped around like crazy bad thing was though they wore as fast as Razr's :(

I compensated for the 9.5's by running 14/37 gearing on my 250R. Good combination with LRD goodies.

03-05-2003, 12:32 AM
Yep same here for lrd but i had 14/38 pretty close
