I broke the chain on my 06 and the chain got wrapped really tight around the front sprocket, but didn't bust the case, (baldwin case saver). The bike won't shift out of gear and the sprocket won't move. I started the bike in gear without the chain and let the clutch out slowly and it just stalls rather than spinning the front sprocket. Any ideas?

open up your right side case and check to see if your shift pawl and all the linkage is in place and not broke or bent, if all looks good in there im sorry to say your splitting your cases

but if its not in the right side case its not going to be real cheap

if you do split cases check for bent pin, fork, shaft.broken or worn gears,

do all the seals, gaskets, oil pump, bearings, new piston

good luck !!! I hope for your sake its under the first cover....:(

Sounds like a partout may be in your future if the previous poster is right, (i likely would)

Also check to ensure that a link of the chain isnt broke off and stuck behind the front sprocket. Its not likely, but I saw it happen once and it would be easy. Before opening the engine I would try it with front sprocket all the way off. Not likely but maybe a glimmer of hope for you. Good luck!
