I saw in my manual that there is a special tool to hold the nut in the middle of the basket while installing . Is this nesecary? Any tip on install ? How am I suppose to torque it if it spins? Thanks for all the info in advanced

Yea its a good idea to go and buy the tool. I found out the hard way and broke my inner clutch hub. I have a brand new one if you happen to do the same thing.

How did you brake it.I still don't quite understand what this tool does. As long as I keep an eye on it can I get away with it? I'm pretty sure that tool isn't cheap

The tool doesn't hold the nut in place, it holds the basket from spinning while removing or installing the nut. I use an impact gun to take it off and put it on and find that the tool is unnecessary. If you are using standard hand tools, the basket holder is pretty much required.

If you're replacing the plates and fibers, you can bolt an old fiber and plate together to hold the clutch hub, and a penny in the gears will keep everything from spinning so you can torque the nut.

as gojk said.the easiest way to do this is open up the depressed notch on the locknut/basket retainer, put the machine the highest gear and put an impact gun on it.zing its off.replace parts torque to spec and re-notch the nut onto the shaft.for my hinson i re-used the nut just rotating it a little to get to a fresh spot.screw that tool.
