I've got a stage two ho cam in a stock motor and it is great but don't run a stage 3 in a stock motor.

The stage 1 cam in my opinion is 100% pointless.. But thats my opinion.

EDIT: Ok maybe they arent 100% pointless.
They are better than stock. But i would rather have a stage 2.. Idk about with a stock motor, but a stage 1 will probably overall work better with a stock engine.

I run the stage 2 HotCam and I love it. It brings the mid to upper power range to life in the 400ex motor.

When my bike was stock with the stage two cam it was a dog. too much cam for 9.2 to 1 compression if you ask me. If i had a stock motor there is no question go with a sparks x1 cam!

I ran a stage 1 and installed it when I ported the head and swapped to a xr400 gasket with a stock piston. I noticed much more of a power increase than I did from a e brothers slip on and sparks timing key, I lost a tiny bit off idle, but gained tons of low, mid, and a little bit of top end. Only time I have felt limited by the cam was in the dunes drag racing.

Stage 1 for mostly stock engine, higher compression engines you shoudl run a stage 2. Sparks cam is a cross of both cams.

Its realy up to the type of ridding your going to do.
There are alot of cam's out there for all type's of riding.

But stock motor's stage 1 Hot Cam's is the way to go. bigger motor's + ridding style + type of ridding = mod's that need to be done.

Modded motor's= cam's that are out there, sparks cam's, webb cam's, hot cam's and then you have custom cut cam's.

But you need to make shoure befor you by just any cam, that you talk to someone about the type of ridding you going to do,

So that you get the best build for what kind of ridding you are going to be doing.

Good luck with your cam pick.
