I have a 2004 TRX450R kick start, no battery.

Where is the best spot to tap in for 12V power?

I would like to avoid the headlight circuit if possible.

Thanks

Thanks what are you installing?

coming of the alternator you have one circuit for the coil that goes into the cdi first to give spark for the plug

and one circuit that goes to the regulator/rectifier and capacitor for auxiliary circuits (lights and fan)

the head light circuit is the only available circuit that you have

I'm installing a GPS ( Garmin Nuvi 500)

I have a Koso AC to DC 12v converter, the cable for the GPS and RAM mount

I just took all this off of my snowmobile and switching it over to the 450 for the summer.

Should I tap into the Fan or Headlight circuit?

Where is the best place to tap in? I'd like to avoid cutting any wires in the harness if possible.

Thanks

unfortunately you have to cut into something..

the fan and lights are the same auxiliary circuit, the 450r only has 1 aux circuit
the only other circuit from the alternator is the high voltage plug circuit

the least intrusive way is to splice into the aux circuit is
either completely remove the front brake light switch
and use the black wire for your power and go to frame ground with the other,
or just splice into that black wire and still use the brake light switch

by using this wire to go back to stock just remove the splice from the black and re-insulate the wire,
or replace the switch with new.
the brake light switch and wires are the cheapest of all the parts of the harness

or.. if your not using the carb heater just unplug the heater
and use those wires,, its all the same aux circuit and the green is your ground

but just make sure to do all splicing on sub harness,
not on the main harness side of the connectors,
and you will be able to go back to stock much easier or cheaper

here is a pic showing where im talking about
