so i have no spark. started testing everything ,
all coil tests are fine, pulse generator tests fine.
but then i get to the stator, it test out at 104.2 but the thing is my multi meter will only read it when on 200K ohm setting? (thats the lowest setting i could get the meter to register a number) i know im supposed to read between 50 and 250 ohms..

Im in no way electrically inclined (carpenter by trade) so i rarely use a mult meter. but the way i understand it is that on the 200ohm setting i should be reading anything less than 200ohms correct? so if my meter is only picking it up on the 200K setting thats showing that it is over 200ohms? am i just retarded, and that is actually reading 104,200ohms? indicating my stator is fried?

any info from the electronic gurus?

first what type of meter is it?

and what does the meter read with JUST the 2 lead from the meter shorted... basically whats your zero with just the meter?

Its an E tek 10709. Measures volts,amps,ac/dc and ohms. In the ohma ssection I have 6 selections 200m 20m 200k 20k 2k and 200. All my other tests outside of the stater were all done on the 200ohm setting and worked out just fine...?

If I cross my leads I read.01-.02

when you cross your leads the meter should read a 0.0

in a perfect world they should read zero yes i agree, but that 1or2 100ths of an ohm shouldn't make a large difference in read out should it?

I think you're reading 104,200 ohms. It's a common mis-reading with people that aren't familiar with multi-meters, but you've already figured it out, you just needed confirmation.

High-resistance shorts are odd, because the component itself is just a coil of wire, so usually you either read the correct resistance, or you read infinite resistance because the wire breaks. A high- resistance short is odd, but it's not impossible.

I can't tell you for certain because I'm not there with you, but so far it sounds like you've got it correct, you're measuring 104K, and your stator is bad.

Before you go changing anything and spending money, which coil on the stator is giving you this reading?

So this weekend I swapped out some parts with my cousin and we figured out that it was in fact the stater... now as far as Witch coil I'm not sure I did a test just to see if there was a break anywere. And I'm guessing that it is the two coils that have the windings wrapped up.( to the best of my knowledge thoser are the ingnition coils)? I may be wrong on that. But those are the coils that's test bad (broken circuit). The remaining coils on the stator have a full circut

If you swapped stators and everything works, that's a pretty definitive test. Sounds like a new stator is in your future.

I'm thinking the loose washer that somehow ended up in there screwed up something, most likely the pickup.

Something,? Ether way new stator and pick up are in the mail.. along with a lighter fly wheel. Unfortunately its not the CR ignition yet though...I've got bigger problems in that motor to deal with first.. ha

There ya go. Typical week, beautiful outside, I'm sure by the weekend, it'll be cold and nasty...
