Take a pen cap and heat it up and use it to fit in there, or a 22 shell casing bent to fit works.

Order a carb rebuild kit and get a normal screw and replace that thing or dremel it to take a flathead.

Ok sweet, ill try the pen cap idea, and order a rebuild kit for it that seems to be a much easier solution then to dremel that piece to fit a flat head lol... Thanks

Also I replaced my stock pilot with a 42 and I haven't adjusted the a/f screw yet but it cranks up and idles fine.... Is that normal?

Should be. The 400ex is lean from the factory imho.

Is there a certain carb rebuild kit that works better than the other or will they all have the same fuel screw in it?

You would have to send yet to get them out in most likely. There's a few places to ship to but GT Thunder is one of the best Imo

Should be all the same, Ive had good luck with shindy branded kits in the past tho.

http://worksconnection.com/details.php?id=568...just get one of these, a lot easier to adjust with the bike running.

The screw I ordered did not specify it would fit the 400ex but it does. I had a suspicion that Keihin carb parts would be somewhat interchangeable since the jets were the same for my Honda dirtbike. I took the pilot screw off of my CRF 450X and it fit perfectly on the 400ex so I ordered this;

It works great and it's only 12 bucks! I used a small wing nut wire connector to get my D shaped screw out.

Or get this http://www.jetsrus.com/individual_parts/mp_08_0229.html it has the D shaped and other bits and u can adjust it while the bike is running.

You guys are funny, Id never spend 75 bucks on a screw driver myself.

Loosen the boots on the carb enough so you can tilt it to the side and adjust when its off. Usually you can get it close this way and just fine tune it by playing around.

I can adjust mine while it's running and if I remember the screw was only $20+or-;)

I bought the d-shaped bit for $4. I removed the idle adjustment bracket and just simply reach my hand in there and turn it by hand with the d-shaped bit. Works like a charm.

Quit over thinking this.
