Oh sorry, missed that part.

A trx450 04-05 carb would be good, nice power increase. Long travel rear would also be a good idea too.

Pics are probably too big to attach, make them smaller.

Yea the carb would b a pretty good idea but can't seem to find one decently priced

Swing arm skid plate comes to mind. Even tho I run sand I wont run at least a swingarm skid.

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:11 PM
Yea it would indeed b nice but I ride a lot of trails natural jumps and a little bit of track and with an old pos like this they are already heavy af so I don't need any added weight lol

That thing needs a good washing and maybe some air out of those back tires.. They look ballooned to me

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:21 PM
Has had a through cleaning since pics and the reason I have so much air in them for now is because I'm not riding much and trying to allow them to seat as good as possible.

needs a header and larger oil tank

quadmanw
03-04-2012, 08:27 PM
Headers will do nothing. Do you have your grinder down on the inside? That's something you should do. Just paint them if you want a better look. And the large oil tank will defy keep the temperature down on the 440

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:28 PM
What header do you recommend? And where can I get prices on a larger oil tank? Post a link if possible thanks alot

Both pointless.

You cant really get a better header design on these things than what it already has. It will not increase power either. You will also burn up clutch cables unless you do an aftermarket one b/c you cant route it the stock way.

The larger oil tank isnt needed either IF its jetted properly it wont overheat with a 440 at all.

A skid is a must man, a 1/4 thick aluminum one doesnt way jack when you could easily ruin your swingarm without one. A belly skid would also be advisable, a friend RUINED his yfz450 when a rock nailed the plastic pos on it and went right into his cases.

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:29 PM
What exactly do you mean grinder?

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:30 PM
Okay. Could you post links with these must have parts need to get a ball park range on prices and if anyone has any of the parts used lying Arnd I would be interested for a decent price

CJM
03-04-2012, 08:30 PM
Take a die grinder, dremel, drill bit, whatever. Take the header off and grind out the inside of the header where it goes into the head.

You will notice the welds are extremely thick inside there, its said to help the exhaust flo. Honestly I didnt notice anything.

Alright will check into this. New Susp is on the way but it's only stock 450 shocks I now need someone to revalue them but need a decent price so I can do front and back

CJM
03-04-2012, 08:33 PM
Just ebay CFM or UM oil tank. Ill warn you now, the larger tank is great for controlling temps-but removing the headers is now mind numbingly painful b/c you now have a 1/2 of room between them and the tank. I actually have to drain my tank and unbolt it and shimmy the headers out.

If your interested in suspension work contact nick @ jet suspension or GT Thunder. Both are very good places. Revalve is cheaper maybe 300 at the absolute most. But expect to pay around 600 respring and revalve for your weight and riding style is of course more. That means front and back shock.

What you will really want to look into is having the back shock setup for long travel. It eliminates the bouncing effect due to poor suspension design on these things. But its about 400 bucks in the end.

As for the 450 fronts, take all of the preload off them unless your fat and over 250lbs. Them suckers are STIFF. To do this loosen the top washer and then back both off to the very top. But with your +2 arms they might be soft enough already.

Kwadrider04
03-04-2012, 08:40 PM
I do not have +2 arms as of now but within the next few months I will def being purchasing some. Prob the alba +2 adjustable because they are cheap and give u more clearance what brand arms do you recommend once again keep price in mind this is a pretty low budget build

CJM
03-04-2012, 08:48 PM
If you go on ebay and look for GT thunder 400ex arms they sell VERY nice arms with tie rods and everything for about 400 bucks. They only come in +2, have adjustable ball joints and Id rock them myself but they are too wide for where I ride.

Another member has them and he says the quality is superb for the price.

if you are concerned about your oil temp, dont know how much oil tanks run but for about 30-40 bucks you can by a small care transmission cooler and use it as another oil cooler to cool your oil temp down and you wont have to deal with the hassle of a bigger oil tank. there is a great thread in the sticky section on how to do this, believe its inline extra oil cooler, very helpful. i just installed one on mine and it only took a couple hours and its a fairly cheap upgrade. just a suggestion.

Heal guards. I have some if your intrested

Kwadrider04
03-05-2012, 05:54 PM
Bead locks are currently out of my price range lol. But I am enjoying the idea of the extra inline oil cooler could save me about $50 to do something else with. What kind of price do you have in mind for the heel guards?

Kwadrider04
03-05-2012, 05:57 PM
The arms are very NIce although the type of riding i do I believe I'm going to save my $$$ for a couple weeks or a month and order some +2 albas the only thing making me lean towards these is because the bend of the lower arm gives u a few more inches of clearance and rocks and what not where I read clearance is the key

quadmanw
03-05-2012, 07:43 PM
True but the front end on a 400 sits high as it is. Especially with the 450 shocks. So either way it wouldn't matter to me

Kwadrider04
03-05-2012, 08:15 PM
Accrually I was very surprised but these shocks I installed today actually lower it abt a half inch to an inch

03-09-2012, 04:38 PM
for temp concerns i highly recommend a spal 6" puller fan mounted on stock radiator.the problem is they are 300 new so finding a used one is essential.i checked craigs list and got lucky finding a part out nearby that had one.i run it in conjunction with a FST auxiliary oil cooler and it runs so cool now its unreal.my al baker therm dip stick broke and haven't gotten the replacement back yet to compare but my TT vapor won't even read a temp (meaning it's less than 100 degrees at the top of my valve cover) and it used to go up to about 270 in the summer/fall on my 426 when the temp is under 40 deg.not a great comparison because the ambient air temp is so different but iirc it was approx an 80 deg drop when i installed both.about 40 i believe with just the FST.either option will work i just happened to find a deal on both so i scooped em up,i'm glad i did it really runs good now.some say heat shouldn't b a concern but i ride alot of railroad rails where u get it in 5th and open it up for 20 mins at a time...it gets HOT.for most people one or the other is fine.fan= expensive(unless u get a used one)but easy/cheap to install. FST cooler=relatively cheap (about 100 i think)but a little more complicated to install and could be expensive as well if you have a machine shop do the work and replace the rubber hoses with steel braided lines as i did.as someone said it could be done cheaper by finding the componets yourself but i like mickey so decided to support him.he's put alot of time into this site and helping others on here way back in the early days.

the other thing i really like i didn't c was a steering stabilizer.i run a pep stick style and it works great for me and is affordable.by far one of the best things i've done.the front end doesnt feel all wiley like it used to.huge difference in arm pump and close calls from hitting random things i didn't c on the trail i.e. rocks stumps etc.just take ur time mounting it the first time so it doesn't hit ur rad when u turn.good luck

Thanks a lot for your input. As for the temp problem I have a raptor 700 which has a 4 or 6 in fan on it and I found a stock raptor for $15 so hopefully I will have that here n the next week or so

CJM
03-09-2012, 05:53 PM
The stock cooler is only 4 inches high, a 4 inch fan fits there much better than a 6 inch one.

03-09-2012, 07:42 PM
Hey kwadrider are you still intrested in those heal guards?

03-09-2012, 07:56 PM
the stock number u referred is probly correct but i have 6" on the brain for some reason.i'll run out and check what i have cuz it fits nice.
brb

btw,are you a 400ex section mod yet cjm?if not u should be.iirc ur just always there with the corrections imho.thx

03-09-2012, 08:16 PM
looks like either spal built their 4" fan specifically for the ex's rad adding a precise 1" on top and bottom making for a perfect alignment of the mounting holes on the fan or......its a 6".what size is the one you're running cjm?

nice "kwad" looks like u should be in good shape on that.don't overlook that stabilizer though.good luck man.

Im running a 4" one Paxc, bits great on there. What I did was just use some zip ties and some AL flatbar on the other wide and just zipped them together. Been on my EX for eons now.

03-10-2012, 09:00 AM
ah ok,so you probly didn't have to trim out the heat shield a little to get it to fit?either way it's one of my favorite add ons and should have been done from the get go,thx honda once again for almost doing what you should have the first time.oh well at least they gave it an oil cooler to begin with.

HondaRacing83

tusk heelguards. they are $70, and will do you wonders and will probably save you a snapped ankle. will bolt right up with the nerfs

Thanks a lot guys you are a big help! I am on my way to buying the fan but I had to pay my older bro back for sme shocks he loaned me money for but as soon as some things on eBay sell then the fan will b headed to Kentucky! I can not wait to c how much better that makes the temp. And riding today I never realized with the new clutches and tires and all the motor work I was climbing hills today that my friends have trouble climbing and it was easy for my bike! I love it

yep, dont need to trim the heatshield at all with the smaller fan.
