What should I look for when buying a used crf450 engine for a hybrid? Bit new to the four strokes.
I will be using the quad for xc/woods riding but also have the chance to have the quad at wide open throttle.
I have access to 105 octane at the pump.
Most likly need to stick with an 02-03 crf motor.

I appreciate the help.

If you can ride the bike with the motor in it before you buy it the motor should start cold with in a kick or two. And make sure it goes threw the gears and shifts smooth. Make sure there no really loud noises coming from the motor. If your buying a motor already out of the bike it's kind of a crap shoot. You don't know what your going to get.

105 octaine is really not needed for a stock motor, stick to 91 octaine and save your money!

Good advice, i am familiar with buying engines online, and yes it is a crap shoot. I mentioned the 105 octane because i would like the engine to have some modifications to it, i think. I need a little bit of work done to the engine to feel statisfied about it.
Need some advice about mods, like what type of head work, valve work and porting options. Would like engine to be reliable yet exiting. Advice needed in this regard.
Is it worth buying a roached engine at 800$ and rebuilding it? What is the average rebuild cost, yes i know the answer is "it depends" but I need to start somewhere in gathering info.

thanks

Will this be your first hybrid? What are you using the bike for? If you really want to get the motor built I would highly recomend Demon Industries. Morgan is super smart and really puts a lot of R&D into his work and you won't be disappointed with his work. If you need his contact info I can get it for you.

this is my first 4 stroke hybrid. Looking to ride woods with it. Need advice on engine mods and what would be the limit of mods for a woods bike, as the general opinion.
