hey guys i did some searching and some people say in order to use the 07' white kicker OEM plastic on my 05' i am going to have to buy the gas tank heat shield? and some say it works fine without it. Which is it? Anything else needed to swap the plastic over? Thanks!

It will work fine without buying the heat sheild. I had an 05 for 4 years but always had 07 plastic on it. I did have to finagle the peice under the fuel tank on the left side (right near the fuel on/off) a little but. But all I did on it was cut a slot in the tab behind the 07 plastic and made it fit around the tab on the 05 frame. (I hope that made since)

if i were to get the 07' heat shield would the gas tank fit down on top of it fine since the tanks from 06+ are different? If so ill get the shield, if not ill do what you did.

The heat shields are all the same so I don't think that will make a difference. The only change is with the 08+ heat shields, and that is with the two rubber bumpers the gas tank rests on. The actual plastic piece is the same, it's just the 08+ rubber bumpers are shorter, allowing the gas tank to sit lower and have its cover (08+ tanks) line up with the rear fender.

the 06+ heat shield some people say interfere with the 05' gas tank. They also have different mounting for the front of the rear plastic. Can anyone verify this 100% for me so i can order some plastic? Thanks!

so the question is: has anyone used the 06'-08' gas tank heat shield with their 05' 450r gas tank? did it fit like stock?

Im with NRGY...I cant see what the heat sheild will do for you. If you get the plastic I promise it will work with no issues. The heat sheild would be needed for the 08+ gas tanks that have a tank cover on them.

The front part of the rear plastic mounts to the heat shield. It mounts differently on 06+

I believe the 07' and 05' gas tanks have different part numbers. Are you sure his heat shield from the 07' let's his 05' tank sit flush? Just making sure lol

well an ims tank has the same part number. not sure on the stock one. but yes his sits flush and you would think it was an 07

can you make sure he didnt have to modify the 07 heat shield to get the 05 tank to sit flush? i just keep reading people saying that it interferes with the tank sitting flush
