I did a search on suspension and from what i found my first choice of suspension didnt seem to rate real good. I was thinking about works or elka and i was leaning towards works because of price cause with a wife & 3 kids keep it tight not to mention my daughter has a blaster and we all know what money holes they are! Anyway back to the subject, i like to jump ALOT i mainly ride on a motorcross track some trails right now the biggest jump is around 50 ft. long coming down around 12 ft. do i need dual rate or triple rate i will def. get rezzies. I guess i just want some one to pat me on the back and say " works are good and you will be happy with them":(
please help, todd

Well the price of Elka just went up. So in your situation i guess Elkas arn't the way to go.well you could always get recs but they don't come with rezzies wich you want. It would help if you could tell me your price limit. Works are alot better then stock. But axis, pep, elka, tcs are quite a bit better then works, but not as drasticaly as how much beter works are then stockers. You could always buy some works tripple rates then in a year get them revalved by pep. If you decide to go a little better then works try tcs. they are the next cheapest shocks and everyone that gets them seems to love them.

just go with works. if your not a serious reacer you'll be perfectly fine. i run triple rates with cans and i do jumps as big as you and bigger and they work fine. i say just go with works.

"Works are fine and you will be happy with them" triple rate with cans. Can you feel the pat on your back?

I have the Works Tripples with Can's and they work flawlessly. Love them best purchase next to my stablizer. Just suggestion shop around I bought mine used for $200. I have had them for one full year with no issues. I am going to run them the rest of this year then get a rebuild on them. Even though they feel as great as the day I bolted them up.

everyone says ELKA raised there prices but I got a great deal on mine. The retail on the shocks i bought were 895.00. I payed 894.50 and got shock covers and that total includes shipping. Call the QUADSHOP and see what kind of deals they can make you on some ELKAS. You could probaly get some ELKAS with rezzies for around 750 and that will include shipping and all. To me ELKAS are well worth the extra 200.

thanks guys yall have made me feel better seems like most of the post i read as soon as works are mentioned 20 people jump in with elka or other brands its like works is the plauge or something. This is my first major investment other than tires , oil changes , and cam, which is a whole other story i care not to get into. Thanks everyone for making me feel like i am not screwing up and boogie i appreciate "that pat."
thanks all , Todd

I got a e-mail from works and i think triple rates are out from what i gather from this i guess it will be dual rates what do you think? The Honda TRX250X and TRX300EX are the same
vehicle when it comes to suspension components,
the only real difference is the 300EX is a few
pounds heavier. There is, I feel, a problem with
the stock suspension set up on these ATVs, the
shock mounts on the A-arms are not far enough out
on the arms. There is too little shock travel for
too much wheel travel. When we build shocks for
stock arms and stock size tires the shocks will
be 13" with 3.5" travel to give 8.9" at wheels.
If you are going to go to longer A-arms, the longer
stock type arms will make the leverage ratio
mismatch even worse and while we build shocks
for +2 arms I do not like the situation.
When ordering shocks any changes in arms from
stock arms must be explained, always!
Front shocks pr with dual rate springs.
Remote reservoirs add pr.<BR

Honda got the leverage right on the TRX250R
and on the newer TRX400EX, these A-arms fit onto
the 250X and 300EX but require some modifications.
We do not recommend any modifications to stock 250X
or 300X. Only that some people have made these
modification and that I can build shocks for the
situations.

Shocks for 250X or 300EX with 250R A-arms
are 14.25" long with 4.5" of shock travel to give
9" travel at the wheels (ideal 2-1 ratio of wheel
travel to shock travel, 4.5 gives 9). Some people
have just gone ahead and used stock 250R shocks
but because they are too long for this application,
the upper shock mount brackets must be moved.
The shocks I make avoid this by being 1.5" shorter
than the stock 250R shocks. This modification made
with stock length 250R A-arms will push the tires
out 1 1/4" on each side (1 1/4" over), the effective
length of the stock 250R arms is 1 1/4" longer.
A variation on this theme is the TRX400EX A-arms,
I can make 14.5" shocks with 4.75" of shock travel
to give 9" wheel travel (I as in Sandy. The regular
build for these is 14.5 x 4.25 as we have been doing
it, also 14.5 x 4.25 is what I will use if you have
low profile tires or extended 400 arms).
(different shocks than 250R A-arms, 4oo arms
actually fall below the 2 to 1, 4.75 gives 9.)
400 arm widen the stance about 1/2" per side.
Same price as the regular shocks for the 250X and
300EX. Also at these 14.25 and 14.5 lengths
usually possible do optional triple rate, +$40pr.
While we provide the shocks for the above
situations which are already in place, and these
modifications provide a better shock situation.
We are not telling you to do this! We are not
recommending that anyone make these modifications!
We can not help you in any way with the modifications
except to provide the shocks if the modifications have
been properly made. (((Rumer is that 250r arms need minor
work* to provide clearence for the 250X-300 brakes, and
the 400 arms may actually be a bolt on, this is for
actual stock Honda parts, after market arms unknown!
*What is minor work to some may be impossible to you!
Even Honda parts are not always the same and not made
to fit these!)))<BR
