04-07 Gas Tank, Swap to 08+ Gas tank and Cover

I picked up an 08 gas tank and cover for my 2012 build, I have searched some and cant find my answer yet... I have swapped the front mounts and it seems they are about 3/8" to narrow on the new tank set into place with the 05 front tank mounts on the 08 tank.

Anyone verify what parts I would need to finish this swap correctly? I was thinking 08+ Front tank mounts and other parts but not sure if the mounts are the same, they have different part numbers..

I did the same swap on my build and I'm pretty sure all you need is the 08+ front mounts for that 08 tank and of course the tank stap and an 08 petcock ect... the 04,05 have the pegs on the sides with the rubber straps and a different petcock size.

Perfect, I was thinking the same thing but wasnt sure. Just wanted to make sure on the parts before ordered... Ill have them ordered tomorrow and everything I use I will get part numbers together and list them here for anyone else that wants to do the swap...

if all you're looking for is too put the tank cover on an 04-07 tank trp makes one for them.

Swap is super easy!!!!! These are the parts you need to do the swap.

08+ Gas Tank
08+ Tank Cover
08+ Pet Cock
08+ Front Gas Tank mounts
08+ Rear Stay Plate
08+ Bands


With all these items you can do the swap easily, like i have done.
