Im looking to do a mild build on my 04 ex and have seen a lot of posts on different ways to do a mild motor build and still have no idea where I sould go with it! I have built honda motors before in cars but this is new to me and I want to make sure I have a clear path to what I want. I already have a stage 3 hot cams cam and a few other minor mods so I want to know what everyone hear would do to the motor to make the best of what I have already.

quick Q ? says your running a stage 3 cam? how does it run with the stock piston? I just put one in mine but can't test it cuz i'm on house arrest for 2 mo. ?

Its crazy fast!! The only issue I have had is the noise it made but everyone said that its normal! I am running my valve clerance just a little tight and it cut down on the ticking other than that no problems so far !

you are running the stock piston right? just want to make sure? mine don't tick no louder than the stock cam but I also replaced my timing chain with a crf450r chain?

Yes its the stock piston and Im running the 450 timing chain as well. I plan on doing the valve train to but right now the cam is really the only "motor" mod I have done other than the timing chain.

ok I was just worried that it wouldn't run right! cuz everyone says u can't run the stage 3 cam unless you have a hi comp. piston and a big bore kit! thats sweet that u don't have any problems running it! U just made my day! thanks man!

Put a 416 kit in it with 11:1 comp piston and gt thunder heavy duty head studs. That way you can still run 93 octane in it with 11:1.

Im glad I could help and honestly it started running better than it did stock once I got the carb tuned .

I have heard that you can run into problems with running high comp pistions in the 400 I take it you dont agree right? Have you ever ran that set up and there are plenty of gas stations hear with 100 octane gas would it be better to run that or no?

With heavy duty head studs you will have no problems and with the 11:1 compression you can run 93 pump gas ....thats wat i have.

Ok thank you! How do you like it ? How does it pull threw the gears ?

I didn't do the 416 on mine but i have the stage 2 cam and the 11:1 piston and it pulls hard in all gears and you can really feel the difference in mid range power. Personaly i LOVE it lol. :)

Had the same setup with a stage 2 hotcam and was very happy, ran on 93 pump all day long.

Its pretty much the build I tell everyone to do. bore size isnt a huge factor, just so you can bore again id do a 407, cause if you do 416, then you gotta do 426 then 440 is all you got left.

Ok thats kool thanks for all the info! I do live in las vegas and its HOT in the summer time I dont ride a lot but do like to go out from time to time will running 100 octane gas help keep the temps lower I know in it does but would it help much in the desert heat?

Larger oil tank, and a spal 4" puller fan on the oil cooler will help. BUT jetting it right will fix most heat issues.

I have a larger oil tank on it already and plan on putting a fan on it to before summer hits.
