rev limiter question

can you run a 400ex with out the rev limiter
im asking this because my buddy has a trx450r with a high proformance motor puttin out 51hp said he doesnt even have a rev limiter on it so i was wonderin if it is possible to run a 400ex with out the rev limiter

I'm sure it's possible, but you're not going to gain any power. Once 4 strokes reach a certain RPM, the power starts to fall drastically. At that point, you're doing nothing but putting extra wear and tear on the valvetrain. On a 400ex, unless you've done extensive motor work, the stock rev limiter is more than enough.

Your buddy is a tard if he is somehow running no rev limiter.

You should inform him that his quad will still make 51hp with a rev limiter and he will know when to shift instead of floating his valves.

i dont think there is even a way to "have no rev limeter" if there is its realy a dumb mod... ^^ as stated above u will send a valve thro the piston. they have a rev box that raises the revlimet up like 1000 more rpms but does not help on a stock quad at all. my 450r is estimated at 53-55 hp and theres no way i would mess with the rev box,i dont care for the rasied limet i think stock placement is perfect.

Well if its all built he will blow the doors off your EX, just the nature of the beast. Your machine unless you stroke and bore it will never truly match his. With all my mods mine will not beat one in a drag unless they are a bad rider. Where I shine is the woods where it handles better.

There is no way he has no limiter, either he cut the green wire (06+ 450r) or has an aftermarket cdi which both would raise the limit by 1000rpm.

If he had cdi the bike wouldnt start lol.

i think he cut the geen wire cause he said he cut some kind of wire on the rev limiter

bingo. your friend still has a rev limiter, its just higher.
