A few Q's

Got a few questions and figured I'd compile them into this thread.
first, tthis whole beadlock deal. how much are beadlocks REALLY worth? how good of an invest and need are they? i want to race next year. i ride like i race now and havnt had an issue, so whats the deal with beadlocks? whats the very cheapest ones? someone help me out here.
Next, powdercoat. I been thinking of getting my stockers pced black for the mean time. My dad said itll hold up just as well as paint would in the trails and stuff and its not even worth it and itll come off.
Next, someone post pics of there quads with acerbis wrap arounds and if anybody has maier xc pros post those up to lol.
also, whats everyone running for tire pressure? just dropped mine down to about 5-6 psi all around.

bead locks lock the bead to the rim and are good when running a lower pressure when sliding into a turn may knock it off the bead or bashing a rock in the woods. there are dual bead and single bead bead locks. duals lock both beads singles only lock the outside bead of the tire. necessary if i was racing woods i would.

when buying wheels i feel like you get what you pay for.

powder will hold up fine on wheels when done correctly; however, if you bash it of a rock expect sratch its not like it bullet proof.

Personally I run 4 PSI

yeah. fairly low. when your in the woods you have a lot of stuff to bash your wheels not counting other people on quads when racing. i would run beadlocks in the rear atleast. slowly upgrade as you feel you need it. remember most of the people on here that do full blown builds are single and work a full time job your time will come be patient.

i dont know how fast your are or the style rider you are. so im not going to judge whether or not you need beadlocks.

i have raced xc for about 10 years now, i have to have beadlocks. if you dont run beadlocks you can get away with the baja wheels for awhile. rolled edge wheels are strong, but will bend. the bajas are by far the strongest non beadlock on the market hands down. the faster you get and the more you pound the crap outta it you will find yourself investing in a set of wheels.

i run 4psi all the way around. if it is sure enough muddy i will inflate to 5 psi.

what tires are you running now? the better the tire(ply) the less need for a beadlock as a beginner racer.

3.5 psi and riding in the woods, sand and riding very hard I have NEVER knocked the wheel off the bead. Infact I have bent the wheel and not knocked it off and I still use that wheel lol. Hell I have even ran 2.5-3psi with no issues. Maybe its the fact i run 6 ply, they dont flex as much as a 4ply mx style tire.

The trick is to run wheels that have a rolled edge, they are harder to find but worth it. That edge is just like the stock wheels, very strong and keeps the tire on the wheel.

for mx i run 3psi rear 6 front non beadlocks. for woods i run 5psi rear and 7 front non beadlocks.

I race the bajas and beat the piss out of em for about 3 years now and theyre still in good shape. Couldn't afford the bead locks.. Still can't hahah

im running gbc x rex 6 ply on all fours. brand new ive only rode in the snow with them once and im still using the stock wheels. so you think ill be good for awhile with that setup?

I got that switch off rocky mountain atv. Im using just a dirt bike kill switch as a starter button. That big switch is for putting lights and turn signals on a dirt bike. I got my spal fan hooked up the turn signal switch, my air horn hoodek up to the red horn button. I dont have my lights hooked up yet cause I couldnt figure out what wire to splice. in the process I almost melted my wiring harness when I got some wires crossed trying to wire up everything :eek2:

if I dont wire my lights up soon im thinking about putting a black 250r cowled hood on it. I think it would badass then :devil:

Yeah that would look badass dude. I used to have a 400 that looked just like yours.. Not its just a frame from being a parts bike lol

I ride XC like how I race MX so I'm not very easy on my 400. I put beadlocks all the way around on mine and love it. Strongest wheels I've had, take a beating and still look good. I run 4 psi rear, 5 psi front.

What should I buy now? I've got money and have most stuff. I have 450r shocks,motoworks pipe, fresh tires, bars, risers, nerfs, etc all that stuff. came to the conclusion dont really need beadlocks right now

Ok, so i just sold my nerf bars to buy some with heel guards. budget of under $200. i was looking at the tusk ones and they seem pretty good. but is there a setup out there like just heelguards and fat pegs? i see straight up tusk and ims heel guards but they dont have fat pegs.

The tusk ones are decent, I put em on my brothers 400 and they hold up pretty well and look killer! My dad is a big nazi of "stock is the way to rock" but he liked em so much he bought a set for our other 400 also. So i have more work now..haha
