What motor fits better out of crf 450 or Yamaha 450 in a 01 400 ex frame getting ready to have a sweet roller now just need to know which of the 2 would require less work and would be the best in that frame

the yz 426 was a breeze to fit into the ex frame. just wish i would have had more time to do my conversion.

Ok then the 450 yz wouldn't be any harder I guess? What all and where did you get your motor mounts and do you have to cut the frame for the air boot for the carb out of the rear frame?

i cant remember wich mounts different on the 450 but i know one of them is different. as far as motor mounts i made them. for the air boot i notched out between the shock mount and the upper frame rail. took a flat pecie of steel shapped with with a hammer on an anvil and welded it in. i then took a pecie of tubing notched it and made a gusset to support the area i notched. once i get my houser done i may do a write up on a 400ex conversion but im undecided at this point.

Contact HREATV.com, they do all sorts of conversions and can make the needed brackets for you.

My cr250 motor was easy to fit to my EX, it was almost like it was made for it.

If you can try to do a cr250, I know people like the 4 stroke conversions though......they are cool.

you will need to pop the press fit bushings out of the back motor mount and have custom ones made to the 400ex swingarm bolt diameter. and will need new collars made or cut.

I think it is the bottom rear mounts that are different on the 426 to the 450 yz motors but i don't think it was a big difference.... if i recall correctly.... someone will jump in who knows if i'm wrong

How did you guys get the radiator mounted in the ex frame? What radiator did you use?

i used a yfz radiator and built tabs. if i do this again i will be replacing frame rails.

the difference between the 426 and 450 is the bottom mount is a little different but if you have a 426 setup you can just drill the mount out. i just did that to a houser last night but im going to clean that up some. i had to add a couple tubes to the 400 frame to add a radiator. i have the mounts if u need them basically put the top of the radiator about 1/2 inch back of the stem them mock up from there also have the plastics in place so you can put scoops on as well. the yfz radiator is pretty cheap cost wise but i had a few 250r radiators so i used one of those.

the 400 swinger shouldnt need to many mods to get it in there u will need different spacers for the motor. and are easily made. i will buy your oem ones if u dont need them i have two gibson yz 450 bikes and all my motors are set up for them well now i bought a houser and of coarse they used oem parts so i need some of those spacers.

yeah no mods to the 400 swingarm. i didnt have the money for a wet sump i was 16 at the time and it turned out nothing like i had wanted it to. the only reason i would realy change a frame rail would be if i built another with an oil tank.
