View Full Version : Bearing carrier tool?

So what does everyone use to adjust the bearing carrier for chain tension? I have been using a 1/4inch drive ratchet extension, but it seems to be widening the slots in the stock carrier. I know this is probably not the best thing to use, and that is why I am asking. Thanks everyone!

Is it stock? A big ***** screw driver always works

I know that it would work, but I am just chewing up the carrier when I adjust it. In all honesty, I am worried about making it look like ****... And if there is a specific tool for it, I would like to buy it. But if everyone just uses whatever fits, then I am cool with that.

i use a spanner wrench, usually i use my 400ex shock wrench from motion pro with the front and rear on it. i usually use the one for the rear.

it works well until you get to a certain point in the turn, it will bottom out sooner or later since you cant hook it on both holes. a generic one would probably work better since they are adjustable with the spring loaded setup.

i belive when u got the bikes from the factory with the tool kit it comes with a 6 mm allen key. u use it to loosen the bolt and it fits perfectly into the slot to adjust it.

yup.

I use a punch or the allen key, but I have a lonestar carrier anyways.

i take a screw driver and with the quad in neutral i stick the screw driver through the sprocket for a solid fit and pull the quad backwards just a tad until i get perfect chain tension.

sounds like a bad way of doing it, but try it. you will get perfect tension quickly and easily.

don't worry about it looking ugly man. i have a lonestar and bent the supplied tool. all the holes are ovalized and look like crap and a massive gouge from the chain slipping off and chewing it up. it's called character.

btw i use a punch too.

Lots of great ideas guys! I didn't even think about the Allen key that came in the tool kit. I didn't buy the quad new, so I bought a factory tool kit to get the spark plug wrench, so I have all the tools that come with one. I like the punch idea too.
