im looking to replace my plastics when i get my tax return . id like to keep my stock light but if someone has an easy and cheap solution to adding light im all ears .

i really like the flat nose style plastics with the scoops , i'd also like to keep some type of protection from rocks and mud . so im trying to avoid a full race cut style if that makes any sense.

im up for suggestions , links and pictures would be great too and the cheaper the better. im not too concerned with color but i defiantly don't want black .

i had more pictures but ill have to resize them at some point to add but u get the idea of what im starting with. my fronts have plenty of broken tabs and my rears are stiched up pretty good its not by any means an eye sore but i like my toys to be clean . ill be powercoating the frame before summer and replacing anything i dont like at this point

The only thing i dont like about maier fenders is they FLOP!

They dont use the side mounting brackets on the lower part of each fender.

And the rears dont use the bracket so they flop too but i made some custom brackets for the rear.

i have no idea if these are stock or not but i can say everywhere that will crack has cracked and the annoy the crap out of my while riding with the flopping . its so bad i feel like an A*s when riding with people cause im thinking they can hear it too lol

I'm sure you could get factory plastic. We bought a new set for my wife's 02 250ex last year. They were about the same price as aftermarket plastic.

Plastics are too d@mn expensive IMO.. For what I put them threw I still run my cut stock ones.. New one would be nice but I'd rather spend it on something good instead of looks

im about as far as id like to go performance wise other than a few things like front shocks a arms ,and a head pipe.( then of course a re jet), im basically sleeping on some mods right now because im waiting on a deal to pop up and im shopping around.

plastics are on my list for right now because im running out of zip ties lol .

is there different style rears that aren't totally race cut? how about options for the front plastics i do like the hoods people are using but i find myself looking alot toward the 250r style front

636chris
02-14-2012, 07:52 AM
whats the cheapest set of plastics that are decent. im probably going toward a race cut style front with im guessing stock rears (unless they sell other styles) and i 450r hood of some sort since that seems to be the hoods everyone is running . i ride pretty much everything my bike said and done with be more of a gncc style set up.

I have big plans but as of now id just like plastics until i start peicing to together other things

Try some laker or fullbore plastic

Maybe the Fullbore plastic what you would like?

A fullset of just front and back stock plastics is 300. Maier is about the same price but they arent nearly as good b/c they dont use the proper mounting tabs. Laker or fullbore is super nice but also 1.5x as expensive.

Stick with the stockers.

is there any where that customizes stock plastic. im alil leary of cutting up a fresh set and id like to go with a style that has a hood and them mount some some lights for them night time snow rides . unless someone has made a stock light set up look good

I'd throw some stock plastics on it, trim out the center where the headlight is and mount a mood there, that's what they did with mine and it's great! Ill try to post pics when I'm not on my phone. Then you can mount a light in the scoop or on the handlebars. Some even mount to the front bumper but I wouldn't do that.

now that you mentioned the lights in the scoop. im thinking some hi tech led style lights that shine out of the scoops. ill have to toy with the idea when i get my plastics .

Whats a good brand of lights that wont break the bank if i decide to cheap out .

And what 450r hoods will fit and how much modification is needed .

if theres write up can someone please post it

You might be able to find a used quad tech hood, I know they stopped making them new though. You could also buy 05 fronts and add an aftermarket hood that fits up perfectly. I dont know much about hoods but I heard the 250r hoods fit better than 450r hoods if you have to buy something not made for the 400ex

Here's mine, I cut the fenders but it's not exactly put together right now so I can't show them, but I did a 450r cut on them.

If you want new ones go to motosport.com they are 120 for the rear with free shipping and 104 for the fronts free shipping then you can cut them however you like.

I've seen ALOT of aftermarket rear plastic get bunt and melted by where the exhaust passes cuz they don't have the heat tape there like the stock does.. just something to think about

Rohr397

You can always put heat tape on you know? I have a roll I use all of the time.

to answer your question the black quad has been custom cut in the rear for the kick start to clear and i think those are laker or full bore but not 100% which one.

beastlywarrior
02-14-2012, 06:51 PM

636chris
02-14-2012, 09:54 PM
ok so ive seen plastics on the motosport.com site that are listed as honda and are two piece like the hood would connect them. is that the style i want? and then a trx or 250r hood
