I am thinking about buying a Clutch kit for my 400ex. i was wanting to get some advice on this. I'm thinking about going with the Barnett dirt digger clutch kit for $127 let me know what you think or if you think there is a better system out there than this...thanks!

The best clutch kit is the tusk clutch kit with HD springs, the whole thing only costs $50.

www.rockymountainatv.com Has them.

Do you really think that's the best man? I'm looking at the 212$ GTT and 50$ is a lot better of a price.. Do you run a tusk?

Ya I run the tusk kit in my 440 drag quad with 21in paddle tires, its held up for a LONG time, Im talking years.

Not saying it will last years on yours...lol.

But if I can run 21in paddles and 22in drag slicks wih 12/39 - 16/36 gearing and pop the clutch in second or even third without slipping, its a good clutch.

And to be honest, if you pay $200 for a clutch and it lasts 2 years, and the $50 clutch last a year, you do the math and tell me which one is better....lol. even if you have to replace it 3 times in 2 years "I garauntee you wont" its still cheaper then the $200 clutch.

Yeah I'm with you haha. Does it feel better than stock?

The stock clutch was on its way out when I bought my quad, It did last for 6 months before it was noticeably slipping, Overall when I replaced the clutch and springs there was no noticeable difference in clutch pull, maybe slightly smoother, but my clutch cable was going also

Everytime I get on a ATV or dirtbike or motorcycle, the first thing I compare is clutch pull on the lever, I really like the way this one pulls.

Steve also uses the tusk clutch from what I remember, he likes it to.

Ya deffinetly, look at it like this "worst case scenario" if it lasts for 1 year, it only cost $50.

I could ship you a used one for $25 and you could see if you like it, but you might as well buy a new one. :blah:

I wanted to order one but then I read the reviews. A good 1/4 of the people stated that under heat it swelled up very badly that they had problems shifting. I woulda chalked it up to a couple bad installs but it was on multiple quads and multiple people-i mean how many can do it wrong, ya know?

I paid 190 for a GT Thunder 8 plate clutch, new pressure plate, HD springs and gasket off ebay. Ill let you know how it works out when I install it./

I put one of the gtt 8plate kits in mine with I did the 416. I was still on my stock clutch before that. It wasn't really slipping, but a figure I'd upgrade while I had everything apart. I bought my ex new in 03 so I think I got my moneys worth out of it.

That's the cool thing about the gtt clutch kit. It uses stock honda fiber plates. They just shave down the pressure the make room for the extra plates. It was definitely a big improvement over stock tho. I could feel a more positive engagement all through the gears. If plan on any power increases in the future, I'd buy the gtt kit.
