Does the stock 38 pilot jet have a hole completely through it? I took apart my buddies carb (bikes in bad shape) and cleaned it thoroughly, main has a hole straight through to the sleeve and the pilot doesn't seem to be straight through.....or it's clogged bad

yes it should have a hole all the way through on a trx400ex. I have no idea on other bikes and you didn't list what kind of bike his is. im assuming its a trx

Well I'm guessing it's a 400ex, you know because it's kinna posted in the 400ex section and as long as it's a keihen carb the jets would be the same.

What I do is spray carb cleaner through the hole in the back, then blast through it with compressed air and it normally works pretty good.

it soaked in carb cleaner for about 10 mins, I been trying to poke through with wire. his bike was terribly neglected. and by that I mean "never" serviced.

Yeah if worst comes to worst, you could break the bank and buy a new $3.00 jet :P

don't even bother cleaning it, just replace it with a 42...you will be glad you did

It's my brother in laws bike. It was abused, sat and he dug it out when he saw mine..he doesn't have the mechanical skills to trouble shoot it or fix it. I'm not gonna put a dime into it, i just want to get it running. right now it runs on full choke only <---haha

Wow, yeah that carb is pretty shot.....gonna need to soak that baby for a good long time to clean it all out. ..Looks like it was left with fuel in it and it went bad.....probably had some water in there also that separated from the fuel

I know it sat for a solid 2 years, I was poking out dense dry green gunk from the jets and I still cant get the pilot jet cleared. it's got something in the middle that won't come out, cant poke anything through.....yet

He said it was blocked on his friends bike. so maybe he rides a trx400 and his buddy rides something else. just trying not to give false information.

Yeah this is true, I'm pretty sure you can see through all pilot jets but I really don't know.

I got through the pilot jet, took a sewing needle and tapped it until it broke the clog loose. the hole in the pilot jet is very very small thats why it was soo hard, plus the clog was dead in the middle. thanks for your help guys.
