just wondering what goes through everyone's mind at the gate or starting line, what gets you focased or pumped up, thought it'd be a good topic

For me I pray, think about my family and important people to me, other then that i control my breathing and try to remember any tricky parts on the track until the 30 sec board. before i put my helmet on some music always helps

visualize me getting a holeshot and thinking about the best lines possible for the start. Then imagine letting out the clutch perfect and having the tires hook. pretty much try to imagine the best scenario possible and convince myself that I can do it.

Nah i usually socialize with the other riders, and then focus on the gate.

I usually have to pee so bad that all I can think about is "win this race quick so I can go take a leak"

I usually dont think. I just sit there, bull **** with people, and when the gate drops, hold it wild open. Its not about thinking, its about having a good time.

Side Note: When I first started racing, i used advice for dirt wheels. To keep yourself from getting nervious, just think:

"I am just going on a really fast paced trail ride with my buds"

the only thing i think about is staying in front and getting the holeshot after that its just normal fast practice

Most importantly: Where do I put my BEER?????

JK! I always try to imagine different scenarios for the holeshot: What do I do if the left guy comes over, if the guy pinches...? Visualize my lines and what spots I needed to ride smoother/faster/etc.

Watch the card girl for more motivation.

Ride safe as finishing 1st isn't or snagging the holeshot isn't worth a Halo for 6 months.

Since I cross country, there isn't a gate. But when I'm on the line, I get my bike at TDC, get into position, hold hotstart, and try to have the best kick possible, and try not to stab the gas too soon. Before that, I'm usually BS'in with all my friends on the line.

I pretty much just sit there and wait.... after I groom my gate....
why think about what's gonna happen in the fist turn? I guarantee you have never planned on it going a certain way and it did..

I clear my mind. Dont pay attention to anything other than getting my piston to TDC and then visualizing the path I want to take, the path that would be a little safer, and the path I'll take if there is a pile up on the inside.

I sit there and laugh at the other guys fussing with starting pad and their routines.

I am too old to get caught up in the usual first turn mess. Plus, I find it fun to see how far up I can pass in 4 laps. :)

XC, so annoyed by all the people that choose to "warm-up" their engine by bouncing it off the limiter 5 minutes before go time.

I always had all my friends watch practice real close. They all always seen me ride every weekend and knew what kinda pace i could run. They would tell me who to watch for. So at the gate my prowl started lol i would see where my biggest worry was and try to figure out what he was gonna do when the gate dropped. Or i would try to position myself to where i could run him as far to the outside as i could. Sometimes that bit me in the *** tho cause if he was as determined as i was we ended up tangled lol

Glad I took a pre-race dump! The one time I didn't I went from the track to the port-a-john and could barely get my pants down due to having bad arm pump.... That is a memory from racing I'll never forget. Other things I thought about were the possibilities of what could happen getting to the first corner.

I don't think about anything, I just space out. I've actually almost fallen asleep on the handle bars a few times waiting for the 30 second board to come out.

Sometimes I debate whether or not I'm too close to the gate though

Well i usually dont race except for dragging friends in the dunes..i think of how im gonna put the spanking on dem dirtybikes :) But when i run XC i think of how im gonna destroy other people, and how fast i can go so im at the point at the end where i cant stand or see straight.

the worst thing to think or worry about is crashing. if you worry about it, you will crash. fact.

My body gets so drained that I feel like I could go to sleep on the line...I still feel this way even when the 30 second board is out. About that time, I am thinking why do I even put myself through this. When the gate drops I am totally fine and into it.

I usually think too much. I try to be calm. But it do not work when the signs are up. I'm too excited.

I go take a leak before I stage...then I run the track down in my head...when the gate drops I forget everything and just hope I can hold on through the arm pump.
