I was pretty set on the Keihin Fcr but after someone i know told me about his edelbrock qwik silver, im not so sold anymore. 11:1 416 wiseco piston, stage two cam, k n airfilter with outerwear no box lid, hmf full exhaust, and soon a port and polish. I want trail, hill, short drag, and corner power. Anyone with the fcr could you leave you opinion and if you have a edelbrock leave your opinion as well. Im also wanting one that tunes easy, and to my understanding the qwik silver need a little modding. Any other carb opinion are appreciated too

I have almost the exact same motor mods and I love the fcr39 on it.

I used to ride with a guy who had an Edelbrock on his 440 and it ran very well. I don't remember him having any issues and I do remember him having a hard time getting it setup initially. I don't think the carb has needles and jets. I think its a needle and then 3 or 4 adjustments to get things set correctly.

The Edelbrocks from what I remember are nice carbs, just a pain to get setup initially as they are just odd.

The FCR is a more conventional style carb that has been proven to be a great carb in all forms of powersports.

The FCR depending on which one you get may need a little bit of modding or could be a direct bolt on with a change of the throttle cable.

Plenty of people are running them on this board and should have you dialed in quickly. The Edelbrock, you already know someone so they should be able to help you as not many people run those anymore.

I believe power and responsiveness are equal.

It all comes down to how much you want to spend and which you think will be easiest to setup.

If you want a carb for throttle response get a FCR if you want a carb for HP get a 05 450r carb.

Dont get a edelbrock unless its bigger the the 42mm 450r carb.

I dont think i need to go bigger than 40mm. I read somewhere that bigger carbs have less flowing velocity. I want it to hit hard and pull fast. both are very appealing... why cant the 400ex use dual carbs so i could have to intake boots and use both...

Edelbrocks are no longer made, thus impossible to get parts for. Also really hard to get tuned right.

450r carb is easiest to swap in, but an FCR is worth it too.

Actually the bigger the carb the more flowing velocity, people are using as big as 44mm carbs on 400s, also the 450r carb hits really hard and pulls really fast, thats why most members here use one :D

I consider it the 2nd best upgrade, 1st is a 440 kit.

What mods need done to fit the fcr and 450r carbs? i heard the 04-05 450rs were direct bolt on (clamp on)

FCR you need to buy some rubber plumbing fittings at a hardware store, 450r carb needs intake boot stretched or buy member zrpilots adapter.

Do the 04-05 450r carbs have a throttle position sensor? from the pics i see it looks like they do. What do you do about the connections?

Yes they have a TPS, most leave it on there.

There is also wires going into the bottom of the carb. near the bowl. Those are heater wires. I just clipped the wires on both the TPS and heater.

When i finally put mine on I think Im gonna try running it without the TPS on there just to see. I might make a cap out of plastic just so its covered. The heater wires I clipped as well.
