I've been running to work on my cardio and just wondered what would be a better route as I get in better shape:

Running the speed for a longer period of time or running faster in the same period?

30/60s and 60/120s are the best option for improving your endurance. i was a jogging on an occasional basis before and my two mile time was about 17 minutes, i started doing the "sprints" twice a week, tuesdays and thursdays with lifting days on all other days and cut 4 minutes off my time in 3 months...

This type of traning definitely works, the key is to always be pushed hard by the end no matter what distance it is.

What is 30/60 and 60/120. Cause in high school football we ran these conditioners called 30-60-90s. Jog to 30 sprint 60 jog to 90 then turn right around and sprint back to 60...ect the 30,60,90 is yrds. Is this the same principal?

Somthing that helped me out alot for running was eating right and staying super hydrated so i could have more intense work outs..I'm one of those people that likes to push myself till i break off just to see how far i'll go, like go for a run that ends up 12 miles in August :D For XC running we usually do 1 day partial weight lifting, road runs that range from 4-8 miles then we would also have 1 or 2 days of Interval running we would do on the track.

Something good also to do is set a mileage goal for the week. Say 15 miles of running a week. Then you can break that mileage down to whatever you want...It could be (5) 3mile runs or a 5 mile run one day and do a mile worth of 200yard sprints another day, ect. That way you can switch it up as long as you hit your mileage goal and you are always pushing during your runs. I took a endurance conditiong class a couple years ago where we did that and it worked pretty well. Just a thought.

You need a decent base, I don't even run by distance anymore. Once you have the endurance to run about 45mins at a fairly easy pace then I would begin intervals. Shorter more intense workouts are the way to go once your body is conditioned enough to handle them.

I increased my overall fitness and cardio doing the Insanity workout. Really helped the hare scrambles I did last year.

30/60s are 30 seconds as hard as you can and 60 seconds walking, 60/120s are 60 seconds walking and 120 as hard as you can.
