blaster is a slow piece of crap and the 400ex is the most reliable and the z400 is the fastest. the thread will probably go down hill really fast

400ex of course, a dvx is basically a suzuki z400 (same quad differnt plastics). The zuki is a good quad but more complicated and imho less reliable. However they are pretty quick stock. A blaster imho is worthless, its old, outdated and by todays standards-slow. you can only polish a turd so much.. You want 2 stroke Id settle for nothing less than a banshee

My pic is the 400ex, nice thing about it is its simple, has excellent aftermarket and is utterly reliable.

Just my opinion tho.

what kinda riding? Blasters are fun quads but IMO the are a cheap mid sized. slower than a 300ex stock atlast. I'd go 400ex since it'll have more power, better ergonomics, better all around design IMO. dont have much to say on the DVX but they seem to look sorta cheap when i have seen em..plus with the 400ex parts are dima a dozen.

Warriors are decent, again mostly outdated tech and whatnot. Raptor 350 is basically the same thing, just more updated frame and suspension design and slight changes to the engine.

You will find were pretty biased here towards hondas. If I had to buy a yamaha it would be the 450. Reliability imho is key, I like working on my stuff but I dont want to always be working on it cause it breaks.

For what its worth where I ride literally maybe 10 people ride 2 strokes. Out of them all maybe 2-3 ride blasters, everyone else has a banshee otherwise. 4 strokes its almost all hondas, some yamahas and zukis as well. Those of us who show up every week generally are on a honda or yamaha tho. There is at least 50 of us as well btw.

If you want a 4 stroke you honestly cant go wrong with a 400ex or honda/yamaha 450r.

yeah i had 2 other hondas. im just looking for a nice bike for a good deal. the other 2 where in poor condition. i have one more to show you guys

I like the 400ex the best, it appears clean and was modded well. I dont just say that cause I like hondas-it really appears to be worth it.

Not something i would say in this neighborhood.

Ill be the first to welcome you to the forums, but thats just asking for argument.

EDIT: I thought this was in the 400ex forums, my bad. But anyways...

DVX or 400..

The only thing that concerns me when I see a 400ex like that is who did the work? Are those lights spliced into the harness? If the guy butchered the harness to install the lights you could be in for a headache.

The z/kfx/dvx 400s are great quads.. I'd go that route even before a 400ex if I was in the market for a 400 again.

Already have that taken care of for the most part. Works triple rate front shocks TRX450R rear shock, +3 swing arm, Banshee axle.

ahaha so a lot of opinions again. i am checking out a dvx 400. ill post a pic up. its between that or the 400ex. i thought the blaster would be worth trhe drive do to the extended a arms axle 240 bore and all that. looks more fun to ride than the 400ex but i need one to last through years of riding aha

If i ever get money, ill build 400ex's and sell them for somewhat cheap. I like workin on the things.

But like chronic said be weary of it just because i have met a few local guys around my town that say "just want a new project" when their shi*s about to bust.

250xjohn

Im in agreement with the bunch, why does he want something else?

Im in the school of thought to save most of my stock parts, then when it comes down to it Ill put everything back to stock and sell. I buy the same quad I can use the aftermarket stuff, I dont Ill sell that off too.

Course I also sell off my stock parts to fund other parts as well.

01-26-2012, 01:30 PM
thats the way i do things but then my spare oem stuff tends to end up on my uncles or cousins quads when they break s*** but thats ok im never gonna get rid of it

I would stay as far from a 440ex as you can...Most of them arent built right and tend to pull head studs and cause air leaks and bam your nice engine no longer runs....The blaster is the easiest to work on and will run forever its a 2 stroke...The problems im seeing with that blaster is it needs a set of rims it needs front shocks it needs a little tlc but it would be wicked fun to ride...Stay away from dvx400 there poorly made and just crappy all around get a kfx or a z400 if you like that style...Also if you notice most of the people telling you to buy the 400ex own a 400ex look at there signature...Pretty biased if you ask me...

BlasterEaten250

After having to work on a z400, I would get a 400ex before a z400 anyday. Not to mention they are hardly any faster, only make power in the top end, do not handle as good as the ex, and maintenance is harder. If you want something reliable I would go with the ex or the blaster if you like it.

Oh and just to prove that I'm not talking out of my butt, we have both the z and ex.

Banshee or GTFO!!!!! Jk. Iam a die hard 2stroke fanatic. Ive owned them all my life. Ive had just about every 2 stroke quad besides a zilla and a blaster. To me blasters are to small and are for beginners. But Ive been 6"1 220-245 since i was about 16 so never really had a use for one. IMO once you start to put work in a 2stroke, meaning playing with porting, pipes, compression, you really need to keep up with maintenance and really pay attention to how its running. Now if you just want to hop on and go and not pay much attention to it and have a good trail quad I would pick the air cooled 400ex. Ive had one and I had work done to it and it never gave me trouble besides starting when it was cold. Im not saying that it doesnt need maintenance but is gonna be more friendly IMO. Good luck with whatever you choose!

400ex are great as far as I can tell you, not only do I have one but all my other buddies ride them too. My 300ex is a great machine too if your just starting out riding. To me a blaster is something fun and not too hard to maintain, if I was gonna get a project quad I'd probably get a blaster just because the parts don't seem to be too much for them and you can get one for pretty cheap. But still, two strokes never seem to be quite as reliable, never had a problem with my 400ex, my buddy beats the sh*t of out his and it never had any problems.

Never had trouble turning mine. Even with a +8 swing arm. Not saying its the best handling quad or even close to a 250r but its not that bad.

Depending where you live, prices seem to vary. You can find a nice starter banshee for 1000-1500. I notice alot with banshee's that some kid puts fmf pipes and a boost bottle and thinks its the fastest quad ever and wants 4000 for it. THOSE ARE NOT MODS!!!!! Boost bottles do nothing for a motor!!!!! U loose power!!!!!!!!!!! Just sayin.

Im not sure why people have an affinity with the blaster other than it being very cheap to own. But Im sure I cant be the only one who cant even fit on one of them things comfortably. at 6ft tall and 190lbs it feels like Im riding a kids toy lol.
