This will be a thread for the build of my Walsh 250R. First a little info. I bought this chassis a few years back as a rolling chassis. It was originally a 2001 Walsh 250R chassis that Herrmann Racing did a conversion to run a Blaster engine in it. This was the hot setup for the old 200 air-cooled class at the nationals. The rolling chassis had been sitting at Gabriel Racing over in the New England area for a while so I'm guessing it was built and the kid out grew it quick so there it sat. I bought it with the intent of converting it back to a 250R chassis.

The main modifications to the frame were that all four lower motor mount tabs were removed and a section was removed from the swingarm pivot tube. Originally I thought I would have the repairs done locally, but instead I wisely chose to send the frame and subframe directly to Walsh themselves to be certain the frame was repaired correctly and also to have them verify that everything else was straight and correct on the frame.

This build is going to be kind of plain jane compared to some of the other more "exotic" combinations of parts and colors that pop up on this forum. I'm just a big fan of the clean and simple look. There's something classic about a clean build that looks good time after time. Also, please be patient as this will not be completed overnight. I will add to the thread as I go with pics and info.

The first pic is actually one that I dug up from when the quad had the Blaster engine conversion done to it. Pretty neat pic. The chassis is a 2001 so I don't think it survived as a 250R chassis for long before someone snatched it up to modify it as you see here.

This is how I got the quad. It came with the fenders and seat from the first pic, but with different graphics. The tube that sits where the bottom of the engine would be is the new swingarm pivot tube I bought from Walsh. I bought four new lower motor mount tabs from them as well. Glad I decided to leave the chassis work up to them as I know I would have been kicking myself if I hadn't.

Dang those Blaster engine hybrids! I remember when I started racing 0-230 class on a mostly stock Blaster against Dustin Wimmer lined up with his 400EX/Blaster hybrid... boy that was not fair at all the difference in handling between the two!

Anyway the build looks like it is going to be good I'm a fan of the classic, clean looking R's. Bring that frame back to her original 250R glory!

Here is the frame to date. As you can see the frame and subframe are a light silver metallic. Nothing crazy but it should come together nice. Got the X-Factor nerf bars on. Still need to throw some bolts in all this stuff but I had to snap a pic! :D

Got some of the chassis rubber mounts on. They are only black bushings and I already like how the silver frame stands out against them. Lol.

Build is coming along well. I like the silver, it's a nice change from all the flashy stuff you see out there. Also digging the GTO in the back ground :)

I'm sure you're gonna have a great ride there!! Can't wait to see the end result!!

I can't believe I passed this bike up. Justin asked me to take a look at it so many times and the one time I had a chance, the shop was too busy and all of a sudden, it was sold....at least I know it went to a great owner!!

Soooo ..... ya finally got that project rolling. Let me see, you either needed a break from the Lobo or got tired of looking at that beauty sitting at the corner end of the garage lol:D Either way, I'm excited for you dude and definitely tuned in.

Good the hear you sent it back to Walsh for a check up. I did the same thing when I brought my Walsh 250R.

Looking good so far.

Pretty much! I actually had started on it last year but decided to change a few things so I figured I might as well tear it back down and start fresh again.

Thanks. If I'm not mistaken I believe both of our frames were at Walsh at the same time. They told me it was cool to see two 250R frames sitting on the bench next to eachother. :D

Yes, I sent the frame back to Walsh to have them check it over and make it a 250R frame again. I wanted to make sure it was done right.

Looks great! nice to see you take her back to the roots. I just helped a friend bring his laeger back from the darkside as you guys refer to it. It was a hybrid last in the hands of jrspawn that wound up around the corner from me. We got a hold of it cut everything out and sent it back to the man. .Its a running 330R now I'm sure you'll be as happy as he.. Can't wait to here your true ROLL vs Walsh Ride report.

This quad will probably get new white Fullbore fenders. The quad had Fullbore's on it when I got it, and it has the Walsh style front fender mount bracket. I believe my stem is stock length as well.

To set the shock towers, remove all the shocks from the chassis and lower the quad onto 2x4s. Make sure you air pressure is correct in all tires.

Now set the shock tower to the compressed length of your shocks (get measurement from shock builder).

I did notice that the towers themselves are not set to the same height. The eye to eye measurement of the holes is the same but the amount of threads showing are not the same. I guess this is due to slight difference in each side when building the frame.

Hi Tim, I had a question about what you did with the exhaust that was on the Blaster motor. Do you still have it?

I have a LRD pipe and silencer on a 86 trx250r chassis with a LRD 240cc national blaster motor, runs like a champ.

I never had the Blaster engine in it.

Working on setting the shocks up right now then they are off to be serviced.
