Picked up an '02 Cummins yesterday and I LOVE it! AFE intake, 4" exhaust and Edge juice with attitude. Only bad thing is I need to get a new lift pump ASAP as this ones starting to go. Even with it needing a lift pump I can't complain for paying $10,500 with 156k miles.

So is mileage on a diesel really not that big of a deal? Pretty much all my friends that have them have bought a truck with 100+ miles and swear it's not as hard on them as a gas burner.

I wouldn't say it's not a big deal, but a diesel motor will last a lot longer than a gasser. I read a magazine article a while back where they tested the wear and tear of a gas motor and a diesel motor (Which happened to be a Cummins) and it was something like 10,000 miles worth of wear on a gas motor was almost equivalent to around 30,000 miles worth of wear on a diesel. I'll see if I can find the article again. So with that comparison my truck would be the equivalent of a gas motor having around 50k miles.

I wouldn't know yet. :-( lol. I have to baby the **** out of it until I can get a new lift pump on it this weekend. I of course did give it the punch when I was checkin her out and she does move pretty good! Will be able to have fun after I get the LP on.

Engines will last dang near forever, but the rest of any vehicle with that kinda miles is usually pretty worn.

better hurry up with the lift pump... it goes out and trashes your injection pump, because it is lubricated and cooled by a good supply of fuel from the lift pump.

If the lift pump is stock or weak you are most likely pulling it down to 0 psi with the edge turned up, if the pump is tapped that is.
its about 1k just for the injection pump...

research a aftermarket replacement pump and get a fuel psi gauge if it doesnt have it already good luck i've had my '02 6spd for a looong time

Yeah that's why I'm babying her. I can keep the FP at 8 psi cruising which according to Dodge should be okay for a week. I can't punch it or get into boost right now because she will drop to zero. If I do 1500 rpm shifts she hits 7 at the lowest. She's getting a FASS 150 this weekend with the 1/2" lines.

Sounds like you know what your doing. haha just trying to save you a quite a few dollars... see alot of people run one without and burn up the injection pump and stuff. Enjoy it man. Their loads of fun..

dodge says it can run at 8psi but if you read into bosch's info they say minimum 12psi, with a proper LP pressure should be at 16 when driving regular and 14 at WFO. That will give you the fuel needed and enough bleed back to cool the vp.

also I sent u a pm
