i dont run an airbox lid, but i do run furnace filter over the air box, you can buy a whole sheet of it at lowes pretty cheap and you can make 4 covers out of it

Ehs lid or the outerwears that fit over the top like a lid but i dont run anything just slow down for creek crossings etc

I ran with no lid for 3 years. The inside of the box got dirty, but I didn't ever have a problem. I wanted an ehs but didn't feel like paying for it. Every race I ran this year was a mud bog, so I finally made my own before the end of last season. I feel so much better after a race and seeing no dirt or mud inside.

I put the lid on felt some lag compared to no lid, so I drilled a bunch of holes in the lid. It solved my problem and still doesn't let much dirt in. It's definitely way cleaner then running no lid.

The EHS is expensive but the right idea. I have an 04 and made a clamp (two pieces of diamond plate) and sandwiched an Outerwear between it. Sealed up the edges with silicone. Works really well, been in water over the seat, it sputtered but got through the creek crossing. I honestly think it spluttered because the plug cap was wet.

I run no lid with an outerwears cover over the box.
It looks like a black hair net, just stretches over the top of the air box.

I gutted an old airbox lid so only the outer edge was left, stuck that on the box and stretched the outerwears cover over that so it would have a better lip to hold onto.

Not as fancy as the EHS but a lot cheaper
