Just moved over to the R side from the ex world! i found a decent deal on an absolute project bike (86 i believe)that needs the top end done...amongst a million other things but iv been on the look out for a project for a while and finally found one...looks to be an 86. im in the tear down and clean it up process now, motors out and its a roller as i speak. since the motor was out i figured id pop it open and see whats in side. (top end) So what i found was a bore that didnt look to bad. the previous owner had taken out the rings to freshen up the top end so he said, then he lost his job and had to off load this project yada yada yada...As far as the bore, i measured it and came up with 67.65mm, not to sure what that means since i just got it yesterday and haven't had allot of search time quite yet..(trying to research the numbers on the piston ) but mainly what i was thinking about doing is getting it running first off just to make sure its a solid running motor both top and bottom end, if not fix it up ...then tear the bike apart again and officially start the project... love to take a gamble! heres a pic minus the beat up plastics... quality went away as i re sized it.. ill snap some with my good camera...

you have a long rod crank with an 87-89 style piston and what looks to be the newer cases with the wider opening at the front motor mount area. so i am guessing an 88 motor.

Looks like an fmf H-49! Best fmf pipe ever made for the 250r. Pretty sought after too!

Yeah I'm guessing that you've got newer cases too, from the looks of the front motor mount on the engine, thats normally a dead give away. Anyway now the fun begins! This it the best site by far for 250r enthusiests to share info and find those hard to get items!!!
Thanks Higgy!

Welcome buddy! I sold my 400ex a few years back and started w a bare 87 frame, 2 years later I have a sick 310r that was a blast to learn about and build. You will not be disappointed. Have fun and keep us updated. Don't be afraid to ask questions, the guys around here are great to learn from and buy from.

thanks for the welcomes guys!

ive been trying to compile a list of stuff needed to get this beast atleast running and moving half way properly..

A arm bushings/bearings
bearing for the steering stem
rear master brake master cylinder rebuild/new
new front tires and rims i believe
brake pads all around
carrier bearings ( think i have some new ones from my 400 if they fit)
thats really about it to get it in bare bones running condition just a bunch of clean up work and brake bleeding kind of stuff... After all that ill tear it down put it in boxes and start the fun and expensive process of up grades and powder coat!

i need a biger shop! already have to store my 400 at a friends house due to lack of space!
