Raptor question

My brother is thinking of buying a Raptor. Just wondering if there is a difference between the 2000 and 2002?
any input you have would be great.

There are major differences, the older ones have a lot of problems. Do not get an older one get a newer one.

Can someone list the probs?

weak stock axle....poor gearing on 2001 the 2002 has an updated gearbox thats more friendly on the trail and pits...there were some other weak spots they updated i think aarms were strengthened a bit and the shocks might have been revalved....thats all i remember hearing...we have a list of raptor problems at the shop and other problems on other atvs...lata~TLP

Raptors only made 2001 and up. 2001s suck. tranny, starter one ways, clutch, axle, the list goes on..............

I just told the truth, do a search, the 2001s have a weak axle, starter clutch, weak clutch, weak three dog tranny. The 02 and up Raptors are mechanically fine. I had an 02 Raptor and it was not bad but sat too high and narrow for me. Nice power though. An extended axle cures the narrow stance from what I hear. My Raptor was also geared too high for the trails I ride but a different sprocket would cure that easily. I'd rather buy a used 400ex and save the extra money than buy a Raptor but that is just my 2 cents.

Ben I AGREE! I used to have a raptor, good quads but I like my honda better. Tell him to look at a Cannondale, it will smoke a craptor and jump over a 400ex!

Ben my buddy will find out today if his is having problems with his tranny..:( its not looking good his is a 2002, I havent heard this in the 02 models,but his may be the first..

Tina - keep us posted on what turns out with his Raptor. They upgraded and strengthed the tranny for 02 but I'll be interested in seeing what the shop says about your friend's quad.

I have the O2 Raptor that is having the Tranny Problem and no news yet all I heard is that the shift from 2-3 fells weak and my problem with it was the shift from 2-3 it would pope out on me. no news yet but I should know monday what went wrong with it.
