well its always been a dream of mine to build a 250R after selling my first one it was a little rough when i got it haha but i picked it up for next to nothing and the frame was staight with not cracks (lucked out there lol) im only 20 and funds are kinda limited but imma run a stock motor for now will a little bit of goodies on it and a laeger protrax front end with axis long travel triple rates im stoke this is my first ground up build im super pumped to get it all done :D

DUBSTAR

front end got here yesterday!!

awesome man. I was 21 when I did my first ground up build. I got it up to where it needed plastics and thats all, broke my frame and parted it out. Wish I still had it though. I kept the a-arms and suspension stock. Everything else was aftermarket on it:

Nope no gusset kit and man I wish i would have but I was ready to ride lol. I tried to take my time on it but every extra penny went into it and it ended up taking me around 4 months to finish it. It would roll out hard for a little ported stock cylinder, LRD adjustable pipe, boyesen (sp) reed cage (the old style which I was told was better) and reeds, PWK 38mm carb and esr filter kit. Man the power was great I loved it and miss it dearly. I think I ended up with $4500 in mine after everything as it was sitting. Definitely could have bought one much cheaper but the fun in waiting on parts is just awesome lol. I plan to do another here soon hopefully. Just got to get away from my bagged truck project im trying to finish up for show season lol

DUBSTAR
01-17-2012, 02:03 PM
yea im alreay into this 3500 i got the bike for 500 an i probably could have had it done already but i dont wannt take any short cuts you know.. i got all new bolt and bearings and the only thing im gonna keep stock it the frame radiator and swing arm.. i want this thing to be a jaw dropper i love 250r and i already have plans for buildng another one right after this one but i think i will start out with a litte nicer starter bike than i did on this one haha

mineralgrey01gt
01-17-2012, 02:05 PM
lol true. One piece of advice I can give you is use OEM style bolts. Never ever ever ever use the polished bolt kit from ebay. That kit is complete junk! I ran one on the quad pictured and worse mistake of my life. Before id go riding id have to check all of them to make sure they are tight, if not stuff would literally fall off

DUBSTAR
01-17-2012, 02:17 PM
haha well thats good to know cause thats what kit i bought to but i couldnt find any oem bolt kits do they even make them?

lol i looked for a complete kit but could never find them. Definitely use Loctite on every single one of them. They definitely need it and mine still backed off and got loose using Loctite.

I bought alot of new oem bolts on bikebanditdotcom. They have the oem section with the parts breakdowns to find what you need. All of the lighter duty bolts and some of the suspension ones are available yet. They are reasonably priced too compared to what they are going for at the hardware store.

Looks like you are doing things up right, have fun.

My brother ran esr's 330 non pv top end with 38mm airstryker and trx5 centermount and it made nice power but of course always wanting more power lol. Once he got it right it ran like crazy until the weisco (sp) crank let go but ESR fixed it right the last go round. Now he has a 370 stroker motor from ESR and man that thing will haul some serious ***. If you want some good power I enjoyed the 310 he had also but if I was building a motor again which I will one day it will definitely be a 265 stroker. I love the power they put out as its plenty enough and from what I read get Neil from C-Leigh Racing to port it and they will flat out fly.

DUBSTAR
01-19-2012, 09:54 AM
hmm yea ill have to look into that.. ive just been wondering cause with esrs prices and being on a buget there looking like the best canidate lol

mineralgrey01gt
01-19-2012, 10:06 AM
They have a good product. I love their exhaust but even when I had my 250r all I had was a stock bore with port work motor, 38mm PWK carb, boyesen (sp) reeds with LRD adjustable pipe and the power was perfect. Not too much to where it wouldnt plant the power to the ground but then enough to where it would roll out hard. It wasnt the fastest out there but it was definitely a blast.

DUBSTAR
01-19-2012, 10:18 AM
yea on my first 250r i had the same thing and i loved it but after riding my 450 with the tom carlson motor in it im afaid ill need more power lol im a power junkie :D

Sometimes its just too much power on my bro's 250r. A 310 would be good for sure. He needs suspension work done to his badly so it can 1/2 *** plant the power, right now it just blows the tires away in 1st and 2nd, 3rd - 6th hook and flat out fly but by the time around here you get into those gears you have to shut it down

DUBSTAR
01-19-2012, 11:19 AM
k how do you do that quote thing with what i said befoe in it ive been trying to figure that out this whole time haha

but yea i think i might just do a 310 and my girlfriend told me she wants one now (ohh darn ;) lol ) so ill probably do a stoke cylinder on hers and see how much power i can get out of it

Probably buy a used front end off eBay rebuild the spinldes and have an exta set of aarms seems that would be cheaper than buying them new and nobody seems to be selling just the spindles

Yea its almost impossible to buy new protrax spindles and if someone is selling them there like 600+ each or some crazy crap...

I got them from SF Racing. An alternative would be Baldwin Motorports. I am having those worked over for my TT quad right now by Baldwin. They are busy right now, but they seem easier to communicate with. I put stock ones back on that stock looking 88 quad.
