I just installed the key in my 400ex. should i step up a size or two on my main jet now?

You will just have to take it out for a test ride. Top end is what you will want to check, it will probably be a little leaner than before. Top it out a few times, and pull the plug.

You will probably have to bump up the main a couple sizes.

I think i read that a +6 will cause the top end to run a little lean, but there was some debate over if it does or not.


Just do a nice test ride and pull the plug.

you shouldnt have to rejet but keep an eye on it anyway while riding.

temps in general will run a bit hotter than they would with the stock key in there. expect to see about 10-15 degrees hotter on oil temp commonly with as high as 20 degrees in some cases if riding hard.

its not a big deal if you keep an eye on it though,

Thanks guys. Im used to big motors and im trying to learn this stuff. I didnt know about increasing the jet size, because i know that on my v-8 race motors i can usually put more fuel through it when i crank the timing up.

I have the sparks key sitting on my desk for about 4 weeks now...I really need to get off my lazy butt and install it...:)
