Just all of a sudden my quad started breaking up on the top end side of every gear. I went home thinking it was the reeds, so I put new reeds, and a spacer back on. Samething. I had a stock cage and put my V force on. So it can't be my reeds. its doing the samething with both reed cages. I have a 330esr , and a trx5 pipe. 19cc dome in a coolhead. I run VP C12 at 24:1. Never had a problem. Went back home and changed the carb. Took it apart and cleaned everything before putting it in. Same thing. So, 2 carbs, 2 reed cages... Starts right up idles fine..but when u start getting on the pipe it starts breaking up. Pulled the plug, and its getting fuel. I just dont know from here ...

Have you replaced the spark plug during those changes. I would start with a new plug gapped at .024

I had a bad stator act that way.

You may have to go down to 0.018 gap on that plug & if that plug has blue letters & numbers & an R on it, guess what that means, it is resisting sparking.

I tell you, that ol stock TRX ignition make you pull your hair out, lifes to short to keep messing with it.

Would going to a cr500 ignition help?

The 2001 CR250 ignition is the most popular upgrade.
Will it fix your problem? Depends if something is actually wrong with your stock system.

Your going to need an adapter plate, to convert over onto the TRX cases.

I've not heard about anybody using the CR500 ignition on the TRX, but those 500s I've looked at, the flywheel looks the same size as a CR250R ignition system. Never measured one though.

To be honest, even an older model CR250R ignition system, earlier than the 2001, would be better than a TRX.
Those old CRs are antilog CDI just like the ol TRX ignition but WAY FAR better than a TRX.
I have heard of guys using the old model CR250R ignitions, but no idea the year model.

At one time I had a '98 CR250 ignition on my quad. Seemed fine to me, didnt dyno run it. It was a pain to hide and secure the larger, older electronics tho...
