Hello all,

I am getting in to riding more bikes, and right now I have a KTM 85 (08). I was wondering, if anyone has installed a thumb throttle on this, or any bike? I would like an idea as what to start looking for as far as the throttle off a quad or an aftermarket.

Just wondered, because I have a hard time hanging on with a twist.

Thank you

Some people like them on bikes and some don’t.
I don’t; they can still get you in trouble, just in deferent ways.

possible.. on bikes that use a keihin carb (most 250fs) u can use a honda 250r/400ex/450r setup. i did it on a ktm 250f and now my kaw 250f

he is talking about a 2 stroke here. He has to use a thumb throttle from most any honda out there and a motion pro cable for several models: ONLY 85 atc250r, 83-85 atc200x(I had a twist throttle kit that worked on my atc250r and also works a 27mm PD carb for 86/87 atc2000x) and motion pro cable for honda throttle to pwk carb. I would use a honda 85-89 atc/trx250r thumb throttle or a 83/84 honda atc250r thumb throttle, those have the range to open up a carb 38mm and larger. Most of the 4 stroke thumbs don't open up a large carb w/o the use of a linkage that is inside of most 4 stroke carbs. That is why they have a short throw, just the thumb throttle, but can open a 40+mm fcr carb.

Thank you for the replies, as we are looking into a 250f (YZ or KTM) after this season.

The carb on my bike, is a Keihin PWK 28.

I will look into a honda, but we don't have any in the shed... So I guess we will read some more, and do some measuring!

Thank you again, and feel free to express anymore thoughts.

as i stated above, go on ebay, find a honda 250r, 450r setup with cable, and it will work perfect on those two bikes..

I pulled the throttle assembly and cable right off of my 04 450r and it matched perfectly to my kx250f in about 15 minutes

That's awesome, but that wasn't his question he has a KTM 85 and that won't work for him...

he needs a 85-89 atc/trx250r throttle or 83/84 atc250r throttle and 85 ONLY 85 atc250r cable or the cable motion pro sells for honda throttle to pwk 38/39. A 400ex or 450r throttle may work also, but good chance it won't open the carb all the way. Cable is motion pro 01-0411 or 02-0136.
