No personal experience, however everyone on YFZCentral that has had it done said they noticed a positive difference and say its well worth the money.

It is nice but I believe it's a waste of money for the average racer. Fox shocks work just fine without the coating.

the kashima coating is bike in the bike scene, its basically useless to anyone below pro level quad, there is no need to do it besides looks, the very small amount of performance advantage gained isnt worth it

i bought my floats used, they need serviced anyways and the bodies are roost-blasted pretty bad, so i figure why not. i'm definitely not doing it just for the "performance" upgrade haha.

yea the price isnt bad if you are in need of fixing them up, but i wouldnt bother sending a good condition shock in for the "upgrade"

Yeah mine are used and have bad roost and need servicing so why not get more performance and service with good looks for a little more

I'm sure if you put new seals and wipers you'll get the same effect. I know that they came out with new seals and wipers when the introduced the new coating.

For the $250 you dont get a rebuild. Depending on what other work or seals are needed if the shock is worn down it can be up to $200 more. The guy at fox told me they won't know how much its going to cost until they take them apart and see whats worn or not.

man their site is misleading then:

"$250
For a complete set of FLOAT X EVOL front shocks. Includes Kashima-coated air sleeves and reservoirs and a complete air sleeve and reservoir rebuild with new bushings and seals."

those 3 seals or whatever aren't even close to whats needed to rebuild the whole shock. You won't know what its going to cost for sure till they open up the shock. I was thinking the same thing you were. Send them in for $250 and get the cool parts and get them rebuilt since they probably need it. Sounded like a good deal but its not even close to a full rebuild

"The $250 would just be for the upgrade so if you needed a full rebuild you would be adding another $200-225 to the total cost."

"Well the way it goes is we can’t send something back to a customer that absolutely requires service or parts, for example if you’re shock needed seals because it had an oil leak we couldn’t slap it back together with leaky seals as we would be liable for anything resulting from that.

If we receive the shocks and they are in need of some type of service or part then we have to add that to the cost of the repair, we don’t charge for unnecessary things but we have to make sure when these shocks leave our facility that they are in proper working order & safe!

You should be around $250 for the upgrade but if we need to change out oil or change out seals then you’d be looking at a service charge for that stuff, there isn’t a way to determine what you need until your shocks are actually here in front of a technician. Unless someone is sending us brand new Gen 2 EVOL shocks that haven’t been used it’s usually a situation where you have to take into account that your shocks may require some additional attention when they’re sent in for service or an upgrade.

I was thinking of sending mine in but after he told me all that I dont think I will. I might just send them out someone for a full rebuild and skip the kashima. Here is the question I asked them.

"I have a set of Fox evols on my YFZ450R right now and was interested in the Kashima coating upgrade. For the $250 does that include a normal rebuild of the shock aswell? Also are there any other fees along with the upgrade or is it $250 all set and done?"

I sent my son's front Evols in for the upgrade. They came back and look pretty........However, now the one will not hold air, It deflates to zero pressure. What could be happening? Thoughts on a plan to remedy? He has not been able to even ride/practice and time is running out before the first National........

Someone I know just had his done. Straight up fee nothing extra. I think for most people there wont be anything added unless the shocks really need a rebuild. The guy I emailed made it sound like if they aren't brand new you most likely they are going to have some extras to add in but I'm starting to think hes wrong. They bs'd him back and forth on being out of stock on the parts, then getting them in stock, then not having them again and blah blah. After calling them so many times they must have caved and now they are done and already back at his house.
