I just bought an 06 450r and am wandering if the front elkas are needing rebuilt. They are triple rate long travel with just compression adjustment and preload. They like compress halfway just under the quads weight without me on it. They still have alot of dampening and are not bouncy, just seem odd to me. I have never owned any aftermarket shocks so dont really know. Mabey they are valved this way? If they do indeed need a rebuild, what does that genarally run or am I better off buying new shocks

Sounds like they might be set up to lower the ride height of the atv. They will compress under the weight of the machine (also known as ssd or zero preload) The might need serviced if it hasn't been done in a while. Service should be done at least once a year or more depending on how much riding you do.
