Both Sudco and Sparks Racing make an "aftermarket" version of the FCR that is specifically made for the 400EX. The aftermarket FCR's are a lot smaller, and don't have all the junk an OEM FCR would have like hot starts, chokes, sensors, etc. The Sudco version comes with a push/pull throttle cable and the Sparks comes with a custom regular throttle cable that works with the stock 400EX thumb throttle.

I have the Sparks FCR 39 and it is a highly worthwhile mod. You get huge gains in throttle response and much better support for modded motors. It bolts right up, the only "mod" you will have to do is to put a small piece of rubber/foam on the top of the carb to prevent it from rubbing the bottom of the gas tank. The FCR is a bit taller than the stock carb.

Here is a pic of the Sparks FCR 39, the Sudco will be quite similar.

Here is what the base "aftermarket" FCR 39 looks like. It will have special adapters like in the pic above to adapt it to the 400EX intake boots.

What Throttle cable did you use ?

I have a 39mm FCR from a '98-'99 YZ400F that I want to install on my 400ex and the Stock cable isn't gonna work.

Thanks

Use a 450r cable. 06 I know will work just fine.

I had to heat - then indent my gas tank in order to clear my 40mm FCR carb from an 06 trx450er. Also had to trim a bit of material from the TPS sensor on top of carb after the tps was removed.

And it still just barely fit. Have it mounted with a 2 inch - 1.5 inch rubber fernco. Sets it back just far enough for the stock intake boot from airbox to carb to clamp right on.

I just used a Honda 450R throttle cable. I don't remember if it was an 04-05 or 06+ but I think they are basically the same as my friend went from the 04-05 carb on his 450R to an 08 FCR and didn't have to replace the throttle cable.

I'm assuming it's a newer 450R Cable ???

'06 & up ?

Thanks

It looks like I'm gonna need an adaptor to fit the manifold at the front.

I found the Adaptor for the REAR of the Carb here:

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/AIRBOX_ADAPTER_MOUNTING_O_D__P9624C1608.cfm

( I don't think I'll order it from them as they have a slew of complaints from the BBB.....thanks to google :D )

I'm thinking since the front isn't removeable (it's a FCR from a YZ400F) I'll find out what spacing is needed and make an Intake spacer to move the Intake away from the motor that distance!

ish 416 - Do you know how far the spigot protrudes out the front of the carb on the FCR you have ???

Thanks

I will pull the carb off and measure it tonight.
